The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney offers 17 unique indoor and outdoor venues and lawns. We have curated a list of our favourite locations to help you get started.

Exculsive indoor and outdoor venue hire options:

  • The Palm House is New South Wales's oldest glasshouse, flooded with natural light and sits in a beautiful garden setting. The Palm House makes for a memorable and unique function venue. This venue offers a wet weather option up to 100 guests at cocktail capacity.
  • The Lion Gate Lodge features a large permanent awning providing shade in a paved courtyard surrounded by a tranquil secluded garden; it's perfect for your event, wedding ceremony or reception. The Lodge is hired unfurnished, offering the flexibility to add furniture, styling and a caterer of your own choice.

Waterfront Views

  • Harbour View Lawn is the picture perfect setting for your ceremony. The lawn has spectacular views of Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Opera House. Nestled under a shady fig tree on the waterfront of Farm Cove, this is the perfect location to say ‘I do’.
  • Tarpeian Lawn is the perfect spot if you’re looking for an outdoor area that can accommodate a large group. With the iconic Harbour Bridge as your ceremony backdrop this venue will wow your guests and create unforgettable memories. It's a convenient location within walking distance of public transport, Sydney Opera House, Circular Quay and The Rocks. This site allows your furry friends to be a part of your special day!

Romantic Garden Ceremony

  • Rose Garden & Pavilion is Sydney's best kept secret. In the heart the city you will find a touch of old-world romance and the elegance of its magnificent sandstone pavilion. The versatility of this venue means your possibilities are endless with the option to host up to 200 seated guests.
  • Herb Garden & Pavilion is the perfect spot for an intimate affair with your loved ones. This garden and pavilion offers a formal, elegant setting for your event. Surrender to the enticing fragrances of the Herb Garden, toast on the lawn and take shade in the sandstone pavilion.

FAQ

You can serve alcohol at your event. The Trust operates under an On Premises Licence which means alcohol is permitted at your event. We do ask you assist with the responsible service of alcohol (RSA) to your guests by:

  • Not serving alcohol to minors
  • Not serving intoxicated persons
  • Ensuring food and water is available 
  • Ensuring the quiet and good order of your Party
  • If using an external catering company to cater your event, they must operate under a separate liquor licence, and provision of alcohol must be overseen by an RSA qualified person.

The Rangers will ensure RSA requirements are adhered to and will remove any intoxicated persons (so behave!).

We request you use environmentally friendly packaging and serving containers which can be reused or recycled.

Bookings open 18 months in advance.

No animals, including dogs, are permitted inside the Garden except for an assistance animal that is in harness.

Our Tarpeian Lawn in the Domain is the one location that allows your furry loved ones be a part of your event. 

 

To keep our lawns green and clean, the throwing of confetti and rice is not permitted. Flower petals are welcome but must be removed before leaving the area.

For wet weather coverage we suggest booking a lawn with a our beautiful pavilions or indoor venues. Please note no pop-up tents/marquees can be erected on the day.

We accommodate last minute bookings if you believe that it will be a raining day depending on availability.

Venues at the Gardens are a bare site hire. The venue hire includes exclusive use of your location, including set-up and pack-down time.

Vehicle access to the event site is only available for suppliers and must be under escort.

You can book a Supplier Escort into the Garden with a maximum of two Supplier Escorts per booking. Each Escort allows access for 1 vehicle in and out of the garden for set up and pack down. 

We do not offer escorts for bridal vehicles.

 

Yes, you can use a low-volume, battery-powered portable speaker or amplifier. Please position speakers towards your area to minimise impact on other visitors. 

You may have a live acoustic ensemble of up to four people or low-volume pre-recorded music. Bagpipes, drums, pianos or other amplification systems (such as electric guitars or keyboards) are not permitted. 

Please note sound must be contained within the boundary line of your site.

The following items are prohibited to ensure the peaceful enjoyment of all guests and minimise damage to the venue.  Prohibited items:

  • Shade structures and marquees
  • Balloons
  • Candles
  • Bat and ball games
  • Party streamers
  • Sparklers
  • Fireworks (any form)
  • Fires (including kerosene lamps) 
  • Bamboo torches
  • Drones (unless permit issued for commercial operations)

Metered parking is available on Mrs Macquaries Road and Hospital Road.

Secure underground parking is also available at the Domain Car Park and The Warf Wooloomooloo Car Park.

We had our wedding on the lawn of the Palm House at the Royal Botanic Gardens. It was a beautiful location and had provisions for wet weather also. The ranger escorts were very useful for our vendors to delivery their items.

We absolutely loved the location we chose, we had all the the beauty and natural light of the botanical gardens for the nice pictures but still got covered from the rain in the Herb garden pavilion. It was easy to make booking and venue administration was helpful and quick with getting back to us. We had a great day

We booked the Lion Gate Lodge as a function so we could have it for the whole day which made setup extremely easy for the stylists. Lion Gate Lodge also had an awning for Plan B which we thankfully didn't need.

The Royal Botanic Garden were wonderful to work with for our wedding. We booked the Rose Garden & Pavilion area and loved the beautiful space to hold our ceremony. Iconic Sydney spring vibes (November was a winner, with all of the gorgeous roses and other flowers out!). We were delighted with how easy the booking process was and the excellent communication with Jess, the coordinator. There are some particularities with rules when booking the area, but these were of no worry to us, just something to read carefully if you are booking to make sure it is right for you! Of course you have to be mindful that other events may be happening in the Garden - there was a concert happening at the Calyx nearby and that certainly provided some dancy background tunes! But a beautiful location for a beautiful day.
