Google Review:  "A great weekend getaway from Melbourne. Super friendly staff. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Orchard cottage room was very comfortable with everything you'd really need (kettle, toaster, stove, fridge, tea/coffee/etc, microwave, tv with netflix and wifi if you really need to get online)
Warm and cozy in the cool autumn nights. Plenty of heating.
Great outdoor space for kids with a treehouse to explore and misc play equipment including a billy cart.
Great spot for a wedding too.
Highly recommend."

FAQ

No, there is no obligation to hire any of the cottages. However, we find that most couples do organize this for their guests as the cottage prices can be divided between those who are staying and it works out to be very cost-effective and a whole lot of fun!

We have our own custom-built marquee which is available to hire as a package. It comes fully furnished with linen and tableware.

We will provide you with a "To Do" list and if you self-manage your event, we will need certain information from you prior to the day. Please ensure that your vendors all have their own liability insurance if they are attending the property.

Each cottage is set up for a certain number of guests. As a security measure, all guests need to be registered with us.  If you have additional guests attending, speak to us about alternative measures.

Yes you can but the venue would not be exclusive. We have a base price for "Ceremony Only" Packages which include use of the Gazebo with white folding chairs and a signing table.

As we are not strictly a wedding venue, we don't have a dedicated suite. However, the Orchard Cottage is ideal for getting ready, It's bright, modern and completely "Instagram-able" - if you book in advance, we can secure that for you.

Yes, if you are hiring our marquee package we will look after the set up. If you are bringing your own decor, however, it's a good idea to allocate a friend or family member to take care of that for you. We have some excellent wedding helpers on call at a reasonable rate so if that sounds more appealing, make a list of what needs addressing and we will quote this for you.

We have a modest-style onsite commercial kitchen available. However, we do recommend bringing your caterer out to visit and we always recommend hiring a cool room. The kitchen must be left in the same clean condition when the caterers depart and they must also remove all rubbish from the property. If they are supplying alcohol, this also includes all recyclable items. Please note that charges will apply if excess rubbish is left onsite.

All staff who serve alcohol must have a current RSA and proof of such must be provided to the venue prior to the day.

We can supply staff at the current hire rate and by prior arrangement.

We do not provide refunds for change of mind or change of circumstances. In extreme cases, we ask for full transparency.

In all cases, we will work with you to reach a resolution.

We do things a little differently here.  We don't need to sell the venue to you - either it's perfect for you, or it isn't. We hope that you will love it was much as we do!

Get organised. Have a plan. Choose suppliers carefully. Get everything out of your head and onto paper. Take it one step at a time. Don't take part in online forums. Get things done early. Have helpers. Delegate. Take time for yourselves. Remember to talk to each other. Compromise. Be practical. It doesn't have to be perfect. Enjoy the process but don't let it overwhelm you?

Have plenty of food and ample seating. Some formal seating is ideal for older guests but a cocktail style wedding has a lot more flexibility when it comes to mingling.

What are the most important things to consider when choosing a wedding venue?

Taradale House Estate

Hi There

These are our Top 20 Considerations for choosing a venue:

1. First of all, do you both love the venue? Can you picture yourselves enjoying your wedding day experience at this venue?

2. How invested are the staff? The way that they treat you is the way that they should greet your guests. Were they courteous, and well groomed, did they offer you tea or coffee or was it a pure asked meeting? Hospitality is reflected in many ways.

3. Is their pricing and their contract easy to understand? Are there any hidden costs?

4. Assuming that you will visit more than one venue - is the per-head price value for money?

5. Are the bathrooms clean?  Always check the bathrooms!!

6. Is there sufficient parking?

7. Do they cater well for accessibility? And this goes well beyond having a wheelchair-accessible bathroom. Each of your guests should easily be able to move around the entire venue.

8. Are they flexible with menu options?

9. Do they provide some initial wedding planning support?

10. What will your weather contingency plan look like?  If you are in the mountains, is there a back-up generator?

11. What decor do they offer? Do they set up your place cards and extra decor? If not, how early can you access the venue?

12. How many meetings do they allow you in the lead up to the big day?

13. Do you have a dedicated coordinator for the day?

14. Are there any hidden costs?

15. How long do they give you to finalise the initial deposit? Taking into account that you are also paying deposits for other wedding services.

16. Do they allow pets?

17. What if your guest numbers increase/decrease?

18.  Is live music permitted? What time does the music need to stop?

19. What is the duration of the function package? Can we pay for extra time?

20. What is accommodation and transportation like in the area, late at night?

Bonus Question: Can we bring external caterers?

Is it possible to have an all inclusive wedding reception for 100 people for $15,000 or less

Ideally want a cocktail style reception with a DJ for entertainment. Do not want a rustic style wedding venue.

Taradale House Estate

Yes, it is!

There are a number of cost-effective methods to achieve your budget. Hosting your wedding day at a venue such as Taradale House Estate will give you plenty of flexibility.

Your variables will depend on details such as all-inclusive pricing per head, your catering style, your decor and your beverages. A BYO option (if available) will also help to achieve this, along with an off-peak or weekday wedding.

What are all the considerations we need for an outdoor wedding?

Hi there, we are considering an outdoor wedding. What are any pitfalls we'd need to prepare for, or ways in which outdoor weddings are handled differently to indoor ones?

Taradale House Estate

Depending on the location there are a number of key factors to take into account:

1. Weather: Have a solid backup plan, not just for wet weather but also for hot weather and possible storms. If you think these factors are going to cause you too much anxiety, plan an indoor wedding.

2. Heating and Cooling: Marquees can be extremely hot in summer so ensure that the sides can open up to allow airflow. Take this into account also when you are choosing fresh flowers. It can be a little like a hothouse if the weather is 30 degrees or more. Fans work well and blower heaters or mushroom heaters also work well in marquees.

3. Stay Hydrated: Keep guests cool with ample shade, hand-held fans and loads of water.

4. Event Manager: Hire an experienced manager specialising in outdoor events. There are a number of last-minute decisions that will require decisive action. Take yourself away from logistics and allow someone else the responsibility of making those harsh decisions.

5. Ceremony Light and Shade: Talk to the photographer about the sun and where you should be situated so neither of you are looking directly into the sun during the ceremony.

6. Guest Comfort: Consider how your older guests will access the area and ensure that they have close access to the bathrooms. Keep them informed and have someone look after their needs throughout the evening.

7. Catering: A good caterer will present their food exceptionally well. Just because it's an outdoor wedding doesn't mean presentation should be lacking. Paper plates and plastic glasses are not ok.

8. Communication: Essential to every wedding is the need for good communication. Where, How, When, etc. We all know how a traditional venue works but if you're mixing it up a little, ensure that your guests have an idea of the timeline of events. Custom signage, arrows and blackboards are practical and add character to an outdoor space.

9. Flowers: Hay fever season is no fun for anyone, particularly your wedding party. Hydies and lilies are gorgeous but not very practical in summer. Use lots of native foliage and hardy blooms.

10. Food Safety and Hygiene: Always hire a portable cool room. This will serve a purpose for your beverage but will also ensure that your food is kept at the correct temperature. Use an experienced caterer who can take care of everything.

       and lastly...

If you decide to have a garden wedding, have some fun with it. Lean on your professional suppliers for help and roll with what unfolds.

Taradale House Estate offers fully furnished marquees onsite. There is no need for generator / bathroom hire PLUS the guests may have access to their own cottages and so they can come and go as they please.
