Hi, I’ve had a beautiful seating chart made and now, some of the guests have let us know they can’t come. What do people normally do in this situation? Leave the sign as it is even though it’s wrong, or somehow cross guests off? Or do people pay for a new sign!?

Hi there, if you have only had a couple of guests cancel then I suggest leaving the seating sign as it is as long as the table numbers don't change. The coordinator or planner should be given an up to date list of where place cards are to go (if thats what you are doing) and seating can be spaced out to accomadate for the change.
Small details like the chart will go unnoticed by your guests so don't let it stress you, I hope your day goes well.
At the moment with constant border closure changes and lockdowns planning your seating chart is harder than ever!! I have had some couples choose to purchase a new sign as there have been too many changes and some tables are left half bare. However if there are only a couple of small changes you could stick a white label over the missing names or simply leave it as is and share a correct seating chart with your wedding planner to ensure the place card names are in the right position. SO long as guests aren't being moved to another table this will not be a problem at all. Hope this help a little.

Hello! If you don't have the desire, money or the time to get another chart printed, you could get creative with your existing chart and try to 'erase' the names. It will depend on what your sign is made from and how the names have been written on (eg. painted, engraved, decal) as to if you try to peel off a decal, wipe off paint or pen, or cover up the name with a sticker etc. However, this may draw more attention to the changes than if you were to just leave it and it may compromise the look and aesthetics of the sign. I promise that guests really only look for their name and table, and probably won't notice or care if someone who is now unable to attend still has their name on the chart. You definitely need to update the seating plan for your wedding planner or venue coordinator so they know the (new) correct number of places to set at each table and how to most effectively serve food. There's nothing more hectic for venue staff or your wedding coordinator than trying to get all your guests inside and seated, while having to move guests from their seats and remove/add a place setting to the table to get the numbers right. Hope this helps! Wishing you a wonderful day and a happy marriage xx
