About

When I'm not chasing after my husband and three small children in our small country town in NSW, I love nothing more than to live vicariously through my couples as they plan their special day celebrating their commitment to one another! Getting to know you and your plan for the day in advance helps me be prepared to catch the details that matter the most to you. I love books and movies, wine and cheese and catching up with friends with a cup of tea!

FAQ

Of course, every couple has a different style and not all products may be the way you would like to display your wedding images after the big day. We can go over what is included and discuss suitable replacements to make sure your wedding day package is tailored to be perfect for you!

Definitely! Weddings more than an hour or so from Junee will have a travel/accommodation charge so that I'm not trying to drive home exhausted after your big day but I am very happy to travel for you. Some of my favourite weddings have been desitnation weddings in Mudgee and the Hunter Valley!

Absolutely, life is crazy hectic and expensive at the moment and payment plans are a wonderful way of making sure you get the wedding package that best suits you without sending you bankrupt in the process. I have plans already set up that I can send you however if these don't suit I am also happy to make up a custom plan.

Plans should be completed before your day however if not they will need to be finalised before your gallery will be released.

September 2023

Karen was wonderful to work with. I had a very small wedding with just my family and she made me feel so special on the day. She did so many extra little touches that just made the day incredible. She was a calming presence on the day, she was even holding my hand when I was nervous. WIll definitely be going back to her for any of my photography needs.

I can't wait for our next session Jess, it was truly an honour to capture your wedding and then to watch you grow as a family!

May 2023

Highly recommended. Karen was so calm and collected all day, even when I was a mess. From the photos you would never tell there was any stress, she somehow managed to capture relaxed and lovely candids all day, then beautifully framed portraits. I honestly couldn’t pick a fave photo, they all just tell the story of our day so well.

Karen was an absolute delight to have for our wedding photography. From capturing those moments when you think no one is watching to grabbing the perfect spot and lighting for our forever memories. Always professional and a little bit cheeky. Karen has the knack of bringing out the best in us. We would have no hesitation in recommending Karen to record your special day.

What's the best time to choose our wedding photographer?

Thinking of having video as well.

Karen Allamby Photography

As soon as possible! Popular dates book up early for all photographers so once your date and venue is locked in this would be my next step - especially if you find a photographer that you already have your heart set on (and if that is the case you could even ask what dates they have free to take when booking your venue as well).

What happens during a pre-wedding or engagement photo shoot?

I think an engagement shoot could be nice but I'd love to be more comfortable about what normally happens at one of these, obviously it's different to the wedding. I'm pretty awkward in front of the camera.

Karen Allamby Photography

If you feel awkward in front of the camera an engagement session is the perfect way to build rapport with your photographer and feel more prepared for you big day! In essence it is a short portrait session where your photographer will guide you through some of the poses you will be doing on your day, explaining little things like where to place your hands so that you don't have weird floating hands behind each other or the way you will stand to make sure you look natural and at ease etc. It should also be a lot less pressure and fun - your photographer wants you to be comfortable and focussed on each other on the day so after an engagement session hopefully you walk away being able to trust them to make you look great and in love with the way your photos look.

How to decide on a wedding photographer

Hi. There are so many amazing wedding photographers out there, I'm getting decision anxiety. How do you know your photographer is the one for you? Thanks!

Karen Allamby Photography

It's so important to be comfortable with your photographer, I can't tell you how may horror stories I have heard of couples that booked a photographer that made them feel uncomfortable on the day and it made them hate their photos!

I think to begin with make a shortlist of photographers whose work makes you feel emotional when you look at it and picture the couple being yourself and your partner, and then meet with them in person. You can tell a lot through a quick chat on the phone but you can tell more from a quick coffee catchup to discuss your plans for your ideal day! They will have ideas and suggestions they can make as you walk through your plan but really it's to tell if you feel comfortable with them and connect, if you have a couple of laughs and think "that person could be a friend" then you have found the one!

I also think it would be naive to not mention pricing as well, unless your photographer offers payment plans, if they are out of your budget than it makes sense to find another photographer. It's hard to try and save up extra money to cover the additional costs while you're planning your wedding so I have had a lot of couples take up the payment plan offer and it makes life so much easier!

And lastly what do their packages actually include? I have moved away from digital file only packages because from my personal and professional experience is that the digital files never end up getting used and after the initial excitement of showing everyone the photos on the computer, the USB is put away and never taken out again. Make sure that what is included in your package will be something that reflects you and your style, prints, framed artwork, albums all of them are such a beautiful way to display your photos so make sure you think about after the day and how you want the photos in your everyday life too and that your photographer has that option available.

Tips from our specialists

Just need a quote?
It helps to provide...

  • Your contact details
  • Mention your venue and date
  • Ask if a USB, albums, or prints are available
  • Ask how long it will take to receive your images
  • Ask how many hours coverage their quote includes
  • Ask if you can add additional photographers if needed
