FAQ

YES! It's no secret I adore travelling. My work and clients have taken me to numerous locations all over Australia such as Byron Bay, Bowral in the Southern Highlands and as far overseas as California, Hawaii, Phuket (often) and New Zealand. I welcome travel all over Australia and 3 destinations overseas per year.

I'm a hybrid photographer meaning, I shoot film and digital. Film is my go-to for all those intimate, romantic moments and details. WHY? It captures light and skin tones perfectly and creates these dreamy, timeless images my clients love. Digital has its place too, and with a balance and workflow for both, I create a gallery of heirloom images for you.

90% of the time I have my assistant with me, and if required and specified, a second shooter. This is optional and to the discretion of the couple after we’ve discussed this option with you. Each wedding is unique in its own way, and some smaller intimate weddings don't require having a second shooter, so we suggest investing this money into an album or engagement session instead.

My all-time idols in the photography realm are all film shooters. Having learnt from one of them is a real dream: Erich McVey. The other photographers I’m inspired by are Jose Villa, KT Merry and Lauren Fair. You must check out their work — you'll see why I fell in love with the medium of film!

October 2018

Sheri is incredible and so professional, passionate and organised. She took time to explain the process and came to meet us in Sydney beforehand. I highly recommend Sheri. My family loved Sheri also and she made me feel so calm on the day and her excitement went through the whole day and made me feel so special. Incredible photos and she captured intimate classic moments and captured fun moments for us as well.

Sheri is amazing at what she does, her photos are classic and elegant. Sheri listened to what my now Husband and I wanted and she was able to photograph our day the way we imagined it to be photographed. I couldn’t recommend Sheri any higher than I already do.

We cannot say enough amazing things about our experience with Sheri! From start to finish, she was an absolute delight to work with. You can truly see how much she loves what she does and how much it means to her. Leading up to the wedding and on the day itself, Sheri's constant guidance made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera—even though posing doesn’t come naturally to us. We were initially worried about feeling awkward, but Sheri’s direction put us completely at ease, and every photo felt natural and effortless. If you’re considering booking Sheri, don’t wait—just do it! She went above and beyond for us, and we are forever grateful. We are so excited to see the beautiful moments she captured, which we’ll treasure for the rest of our lives. Thank you, Sheri, for making our day unforgettable!

Is this an unreasonable photography timeline?

2pm - final stages of getting ready shots, both boys and girls on the same property 3pm - ceremony, no group shots or congrats afterwards, 3.30pm - straight into family shots (14 people all up, 2 families) the property then a few bridal party shots at same location as family shots, 4.10pm - Bridal party and bride & groom shots off property (5 min drive) 5.30pm - Bridal party re-entrance going into reception, 6.20pm - Sparkler shot 6.30pm - Dinner 8pm - Cake cut and first dance

Sheri McMahon Photography

Hey,

You've done a great job planning out the timeline already. Here is what I'd recommend and remember to allow wiggle room in between so you can take a moment and reflect, and enjoy your day too :)

12:30 pm - Boys prep

1:30 pm - Girls Prep

2:30 pm - The photograph arrives at the ceremony

3:00 pm - Ceremony

3:30 pm - 3:50 - Family Photos

10 min - Breathing room

4:00 pm - 4:30 pm - Wedding Party Photos

4:30 pm - 5:30 pm - Bride + Groom only photos (30 - 45 mins is ok as well depending how many locations you'd want to be covered)

Wishing you an incredible wedding experience :)

What happens during a pre-wedding or engagement photo shoot?

I think an engagement shoot could be nice but I'd love to be more comfortable about what normally happens at one of these, obviously it's different to the wedding. I'm pretty awkward in front of the camera.

Sheri McMahon Photography

Hey,

This is a great question and one that comes up with many of my couples. There is a bit of a difference between the two, A Pre-Wedding and an Engagement session.

PRE-WEDDINGS are most likely a portrait session where you're all dressed up in your wedding attire and we have a few hours typically 2 or 3 depending more focusing on your romantic bridal portraits only. This is very suited to most Asian wedding couples who don't actually have time on their wedding day to have the wedding portrait section captured or couples if who want those EPIC landscape portraits like in Queenstown or something.

Engagement sessions are all about your engagement journey and telling the story of your love. They are super fun, relaxed and chilled so you can get used to being in front of the camera. You want beautiful photos, yes, but It's more about you getting comfortable with your photographer and being in front of the camera, so on your wedding day you're no longer nervous ??.  Your session can be whatever you desire, I tell my couple to choose a place, location that has meaning to them so the story of your love can be told with purpose.

I have a great article here for you to view that dives deep into 'WHY ENGAGEMENT SESSION MATTER', I know you'll love this.
