FAQ

During our planning stages, we'll discuss this point with you in more detail.

Typically we start about an hour before your hair & makeup is due to finish (brides), and 90-minutes before the groom is ready to leave for the ceremony (grooms), which gives us ample time to capture your wedding preparations. We then typically finish about 20-minutes after the dance floor opens up. By this time, all the events of the evening have happened and we've already got amazing shots of guests on the dance floor.

If you want us to start earlier or finish later thats fine too.

No Charge!

We know some photographers charge an fee if they're asked to stay back a little longer at the wedding reception, not us!

We want to bring a fun and relaxed atmosphere to your wedding, and from experience we noticed trying to cram a whole bunch of photography into a short period of time simply results in a rushed feeling, and it really shows up in the photos. So instead, during our planning stages with you, we'll discuss the events you have planned for your reception and how we'll cover each one. If your wedding runs overtime, we'll stay to make sure each event of the evening gets covered.

Yes.

Paying for our meal means we don't have to duck out to get our dinner in the middle of your wedding reception. We've probably been working for 8-10 hours thus far and we need to eat something, we're only human. Venues generally place a table for us somewhere in the corner where we can observe the room and identify when key moments are happening that should be photographed. Most venues have a cheaper "cooked service meal" which we're fine with.

Yes.

However, there are many drone safety laws that need to be followed, including keeping the drone 30m or more away from any people. That means that a drone might not be suitable to take the photograph you have in mind. We'd love to have a chat and discuss whether the image you have in mind is a possibility.

In short, no.

That being said, we've found that when couples ask for RAW files, they simply believe RAWs are unedited photos, or they have underlying concerns which need to be addressed.

We are more than happy to discuss your concerns in more detail to either come up with a solution that does not include RAW files, or point you in the right direction.

Yes!

We often travel for weddings throughout Australia & New Zealand, most frequently Western Australia and Queensland. We're based in Western Australia and most commonly cover weddings in Perth, Margaret River and the Southwest region.

Many of our couples find that our personal focus and timeless style is difficult to find locally, and choose instead to have us accompany them for their destination wedding. If you're planning a wedding outside Australia & New Zealand, we may still be able to join you; we'd love to have a chat and discuss.

What does having a watermark and copyright on photos mean for my wedding photos?

Hi there a photographer is an expensive part of our wedding day, and I have heard of some horror stories of couples having watermarks on their photos and having to pay extra to use their photos so after the day (i.e. to print and put on the wall or share to personal socials? Is that normal or expected i am a bit scared of all photographers and the legal stuff! Thanks Bree

Whately Photography

Hi Bree, each photographer is different, and it's best to have that conversation with the photographer you choose.

Ideally you should receive unwatermarked files, but copyright is almost always owned by the artist/photographer.

My contracts assign copyright to me, but grants unlimited personal use to my couples, which means they're free to print, share, etc. as much as they like so long as it's considered "personal use", but they wouldn't be able to sell the images or use for commercial purposes without additional licence. I feel this is fairly standard for most reputable photographers in Australia.

Beau @ Whately Photography

Do we get all the raw photos as well as the edited ones?

I was wondering whether it's normal to get two sets of photos, like, all the original ones and then the edited ones? Do we pick the ones to be edited or does the photographer do that?

Whately Photography

Most professional photographers don't provide raw files to their client.

If you want raw files from your photographer, it normally implies there is something about the photographer's finished product that you don't like, and you should have a conversation with your photographer about your concerns.

How much notice do you need for overtime requests?

Whately Photography

We don't actually charge an hourly rate!

Instead, we charge based on the events of the day (eg. Bride prep, groom prep, ceremony, reception, etc.)

Why? If your wedding runs overtime, you don't have to stress about your photographer leaving before key moments are done, and you don't have to worry about any overtime payments if your photographer stays back. It also allows you to spread out your schedule a bit more so you don't feel rushed.

Put simply: we don't want to be a source of stress on your wedding day.
