OVERVIEW

We know weddings, and we love them - they truly are the most enjoyable gigs we do! Love is in the air, outfits are on point, the champagne is flowing and everyone is ready to let their hair down and tear up the dance floor – Good. Times.

As far as our approach goes, our mantra is flexibility. We tailor for your specific setlists, run sheets, dress code and even a requests policy (seriously, you need a requests policy).

Whether you’re looking for an incredible live band, acoustic duo, Jazz Trio, String Quartet or DJ, we will help you find the right act for your wedding. All our acts are exclusively contracted and hand picked by us, and we only work with the best. Plus, we guarantee the people you see in our videos are the ones that will turn up to your wedding, no collectives, no gambles, just a full dancefloor.

We have a number of phenomenal live bands, solo acts and DJs available, please contact us for further information.

FAQ

This depends on the timings of the event. Generally, for a standard 5-6 hour party or reception, we will perform 4 x 45-minute sets, which will be structured according to your specifications and the event run sheet. Most other bands offer 3 x 45-minute sets, but we prefer to give you the most bang for your buck possible!

We provide a semi-DJ service for all band breaks on every gig that we do, so that there is continuous music throughout the event. This music will be chosen and arranged prior to the event, as suited to your requests and the style of music we performed in the previous set - if you'd like to provide your own background music, we will happily facilitate this however will also talk you through what we'll be playing on the night to ensure there's no double-ups, genre-hops or other weird industry slang happening.

Definitely - that's what it's there for!

Sure can. In fact, it's encouraged! That way, songs that are special to you, or chosen to suit the tastes of your guests can be performed. You dedicated wedding consultant will be able to assist you in organising any special song requests with the band prior to your wedding.

We will arrive to set-up and sound-check 2-3 hours before the event begins. That way, when your guests arrive, we are set-up and ready to go!

Some other great points to note:

- We provide a dedicated on site manager for each of our band bookings. Your site manager is responsibel for ensuring every detail is exactly the way you invision. They will liaise with the band, brief the sound and lighting technicians and work with your MC on the night to make sure everything goes to plan.

- You will

Does it matter if I'm not having dancing at my wedding?

I don't have a dance floor and my wedding is during the day :)

Funkified Entertainment

Dear Bride,

With this question, the only people whose answer should matter is yours and your fiancees. In our experience (about 10% of the 3000 weddings we've done have been day weddings), it is much more difficult to create a dancing atmosphere during the day due to the environment, lighting, and general human inhibitions. It becomes much more difficult if you don't have a dancefloor, but similarly if you prepare a versatile entertainment option, where there's a will there's a way. My advice would be to book a DJ or small band (no reason to book larger than a 4-piece if you're not having a dancing focus), and allow them the freedom to 'read the crowd'. This requires a level of experience and expertise, so ensure that you don't go with the cheapest option - an act with at least 100 gigs of wedding experience is a good level to look for, and won't cost you the world.

In short, the answer to all your wedding questions comes down to the kind of wedding you want. Prepare that, and then accept that even the best-prepared event has unexpected occurrences on the day. Your guests might decide your wedding is going to be Ibiza for a few hours, and in that situation you simply want to have booked a band or DJ that can accommodate this.

Good luck, and all the best for a stunning day :)

Should we have a band?

We are struggling to decide whether to have a band at our wedding reception. We have the option as it's a friend's band and it will be either free or greatly reduced in cost. Things to consider: - They play exactly my fiance's taste in music - It won't cost much - It will make the friend happy to be included - The friend is my boss - The style of music clashes significantly with our 1930s vintage theme (we are having guests dress to the theme and our venue is also vintage styled) - It's the opposite of my taste in music - Some guests will love it, some will hate it - They won't be able to play our first wedding dance song as that will be jazzy (but we can play this over speakers) What should we do?

Hi Susann,

It's always a tough one when you're looking at hiring a friend to DJ or play live for your wedding. It can sometimes work out to be a great opportunity to both save budget and get live music, but I've also seen it go very badly for a few reasons:

  1. As you're not paying a band, coupled with it being a friend (and your boss!), you'll have far less flexibility over song choices. If you have a good gauge on what your guests will want to hear and will respond to on the dancefloor, this can be disastrous;
  2. Weddings are a very different beast to playing a pub gig, as there is an energy requirement needed to keep the dancefloor full all night that isn't there for public gigs - if the band in question are not used to playing events, or are made up of part-timers, you're rolling the dice that the front-man or woman will have the professionalism and experience to engage with your guests, and that the band will be able to minimise the gaps/silences between songs and read the crowd to keep them on the dancefloor. If their approach is going to be "We'll play the songs we like, if you like it then dance, if you don't we don't care", then your wedding will suffer as a result.
  3. Generally part-timers won't have a sound engineer, which is suicide for a wedding - there are so many moving parts at play that require somebody driving the levels from the front, including speeches, volume concerns from older guests over dinner, differing mixes required over dinner as opposed to dancing and a semi-DJ role required to operate iPod for some special songs/band breaks.
Having said all this, there is an easy solution which is to book a DJ alongside the band. This way, you can let the DJ shoulder the load of music for the night, be very prescriptive as to the music you'd like played, and just have the band play a set or two. This way, it takes the pressure off the band, provides variety for your guests, and you minimise the possible damage if the band go rogue! Remember, live music done well is the greatest gift you can give your wedding - as long as you mitigate the risks above, you should definitely go ahead and engage your friend's band.

Good luck, and all the best for an unforgettable wedding!
