I counted it up the other day and realised that I must have performed at over 800 weddings over nearly 20 years! There is something so undeniably FUN, unique and magical about weddings; playing the best music with the best musicians in town is truly my favourite place to be. The Baker Boys Band offers unlimited entertainment options for all aspects of the perfect wedding day. From sublime Classical Ceremony String Quartets, a super chilled Jazz Trio to compliment your outdoor Canapés, followed by a supercharged party band for the Reception, Baker Boys delivers high-energy music including fist-pumping classics and the latest Top 40 hits, guaranteed to fill your dance floor with unforgettable experiences!
Our booking duration is completely flexible, however the best value package is based on a 5-hour function. Our playing time is divided into 4 x 45min sets, spread out over the 5 hours, typically with a break during dinner service as well as standard band breaks.
Our packages are inclusive of our commercial grade sound system, complementary iPod service during band breaks and $20m Public Liability insurance.
As students studying music in Melbourne in 2005, we started performing around town. These public gigs quickly turned into requests to perform at private events and festivals. We loved seeing the joy and full dance floors that we could bring to these events. We perfected our event planning, expanded our repertoire, added members to the band - and the rest is history!

When we first started performing together, it didn't make sense to us that bands wouldn't offer the same reassurance for such an important day, so we started hosting showcases where couples can preview Baker Boys Band live before booking. Not only does this give couples peace of mind, but showcases make for a great date night or fun night out with friends!

From the initial stages of a clients enquiry, we mail our free Demo CD and provide quote options for all elements of their special day, including 24/7 access to our unique online Band Planner once the booking is intiated. Our Consultants offer comprehensive advice and will happily discuss everything music related throughout the whole planning process, including regular updates and reminders.
We can even help with your Reception schedule by planning out the Band sets around the Venue timings and formalities.
Absolutely! From the moment we initiate contact, we investigate your preferred music styles, artists, genres and eras to customise a huge pallet of material. Our first performance set highlights the bands versatility in playing chilled Jazz, RnB and Ballads, before launching into a series of epic dance sets featuring upbeat party classics and top 40 to ignite the dance floor.
We pride ourselves on being able to read the crowd and play accordingly. However, we love direction and are super approachable, so don't hold back - if we know the tune, we'll play it :)

Thanks for the brilliant question!
Here at Baker Boys we love to supply bands and/or DJs to our couples for weddings. We also love to help our couples decide what's best for them.
Here are a few factors that can be helpful to consider:
1. VENUE SOUND RESTRICTIONS. Many venues only allow DJ's, or have strict sound restrictions, that make working with a DJ a more practical option, as you can always turn it down as much as needed. If you've got your heart set on a live band, it's a great idea to check if there are any sound restrictions before booking your venue.
2. BUDGET - DJ's are traditionally cheaper when you first compare BUT, a 3pc band is only slightly more expensive, and can also provide ceremony and canapés music, for a minimal add-on fee. As opposed to having a DJ, and then having to book live musician/s for your ceremony and canapés at an additional cost, which can ultimately end up being much more expensive.
3. GO AND SEE! - We showcase our Bands and DJ's live at our free showcases, where you can directly compare the two and see what you prefer.
There are definitely musical styles that are better suited to DJ's rather than bands, but likewise, there are certain styles where live music simply can't be beaten.
If you love house or techno etc. a DJ will be best for you. If you love pop, rock, country or Motown, having a live band who can improvise and be spontaneous, brings the music to life in a way a recording simply can't.
4. BREAKS - there's a lot to be said for a couple of short breaks in the music. It adds a feeling of structure to the night, allows your guests an opportunity to have dessert, get a drink, have a chat before hitting the dance floor again. Later in the night a band breaks can be covered by a Spotify DJ playlist, too, so if you book a band, you will still have an opportunity to include those DJ vibes as well.
5. SPEAKER QUALITY - I think a huge factor to be considered that hasn't been mentioned is the equipment that the band or DJ will be bringing with them. If you are looking at a freelance DJ, I would ask what speakers they will be bringing and google to check the quality - a quick google of industry standard equipment etc. will show you what you need to know. It doesn't matter how great a DJ is, if their speakers are too small or low quality, it can be extremely detrimental to the dance floor vibes.
