FAQ
Most couples we talk to haven't hired a DJ before so they don't know what questions to ask, consequently, this is the often first one that comes to mind. This is perfectly normal, however, it's a little like emailing a real estate agent and asking 'How much is a house'? It is far easier to have an informal chat at a time of your choosing to establish your needs, your expectations and your vision for your perfect wedding day in order to quote you accurately. Not only is this far more personal but we can learn so much more about each other in a 5-minute conversation than through a series of lengthy emails.
When it's all said and done, you wouldn't want to hire a DJ you've never spoken to, as this person will be holding a live microphone on the night of your wedding. Far better to have a brief chat early on in the process to see if you're a 'good fit'
In my case, I've done over 1200 weddings over a career spanning 30 years. In that time I've undertaken professional Master of Ceremonies training under Mark Ferrel (USA) Bronze, Silver and Gold.

I also mentor others and speak on my career experience at different conferences.

Decibels Entertainment
YES.
A good Master of Ceremonies is critical to the success of your wedding.
One of the questions I ask when I sit down with prospective clients is about previous weddings they've attended and with very few exceptions, the good or GREAT weddings they've been to all had a well prepared, professional Master of Ceremonies to direct, inform and guide them through the night.
This is one of the most underestimated roles on the night of your wedding.
Most 'MCs' simply make announcements. There is so much more to this role.
A professional Master of ceremonies will give advice on staging those 'signature' moments such as your grand entrance, first dance, father/daughter dance etc, with seamless transitions for maximum effect, they can offer advice on things such as room layout, how to maximise your run sheet and timeline so you get the most out of your evening and can offer suggestions on how to engage your guests and truly personalise your wedding. :)

What is the best way to create playlists for our reception?
Decibels Entertainment
Hi Karen. I would certainly consult with your DJ or Band in relation to this. Obviously you want the music to reflect your musical tastes but it is also important to allow your entertainer some 'license' where this is concerned, after all this is what they do for a living. Consider the age group and demographic at your wedding but also consider the occasion. For example, the songs you like to hear at your favourite night club might be great to listen to but not necessarily ideal at your wedding where you may have grandparents, uncles aunts, children.
Whatever you decide, my advice is always to meet with the person who will be doing your wedding and discuss your views and ideas then ask for their opinion. Satisfy yourself that you are happy with their level of expertise and experience. Check that they pay their PPCA license, their equipment is tested and tagged, their public liability insurance is paid up and ask for contact numbers from their recent past clients. If they meet all of these criteria you are off to a good start.
Good luck with the planning!

When choosing a song for your Grand entrance into your wedding reception it is important to choose something that is upbeat, fun and on point, but most of all something that reflects both the bride and groom.
This is a really important 'signature moment' of the night where you really get to set the tone for the events to follow, so don't miss this wonderful opportunity to make an impact and raise the expectations of your guests. In my opinion, for serious impact, you should have your MC deliver a fun and entertaining introduction for each of the couples in the wedding party, build some anticipation, then bring the house down with a rockstar welcome as the bride and Groom enter (You might even have a separate song for the Bride and Groom). This is the way to set the tone for an unforgettable evening.
