Is there a best practice for how early to get save the dates out or how long between the save the date and the actual invites?

Hello, Bride to be! Great question :)
Save the dates are usually sent out 8-12 months before the wedding date. This gives your guests plenty of time to organise any travel arrangements and take time off, especially if its not a locally based wedding. As for wedding invitations, they're typically sent out 3-6 months before the wedding - closer to 6 months if you have lots of international/interstate guests or a destination wedding.
There is no strict rule for the amount of time you wait between sending your save the dates and wedding invitations, but as a guide most couples like to follow up with their invites about 3 months after their save the date has been sent. This way guests have plenty of time to plan and have timely reminders of the event so it's fresh in their mind and gets them excited with each bit of stationery that arrives at their door!
Hope this helps :)
Hi!
Good question. I have actually written a blog post on this here: https://www.milaandmay.com.au/blog/weddingstationerytimelines
Hope it helps!

Congratulations on your upcoming Wedding!
Based on our experience, we would recommend sending save the dates straight after you have secured your date and booked your venue. This is generally 8-12 months before the wedding date.
It's also a good idea to give guests ample time to plan and make arrangements especially if it is a destination wedding or guests are travelling from interstate or overseas.
Wedding invitations should be sent out 3-4 months in advance, allowing enough time for guests to RSVP and for you to finalize the guest count and other details.
Ultimately, it's important to consider the unique circumstances of your wedding and guests when determining the ideal timeline for sending out stationery.

Hey Bride to be!
Let's give you some help with this question.
Save the dates - post out 8-12 months or earlier than your wedding date. Make sure to include any accomodation, travel details for your guests with your Save the dates. That is when they need those details, to start planning and booking to attend your wedding.
Wedding Invites - Post out 4-6 months before your wedding date.
RSVP - are 1-2 months before your wedding date.
If you are now at the 6-7 months mark before your wedding date, I suggest to save some $$$ and skip the Save the dates and go straight to sending out your beautiful wedding invites.
Reach out if you have more quesitons, we all love to help you!
