is it better to have the same hair and makeup stylist, or hire one of each skill?

like have one person do hair and makeup, or book an individual hair stylist and an individual mua

You can get some one that can do both, if you find that easier. But I find from experience most people will prefer or will excell in one area more than the other.

I would choose someone that specialises in hair and some one that specialises in makeup.

Even if they are not from the same company, most hair dressers and makeup artists will have people that they know and work well with that they can reccommend to you.

A trial is always a good idea though no mattter which way you go :)

If you have a smaller Bridal party (three or less) it's definitely manageable to use one Stylist, but one Stylist doing both means that it's going to take longer to get everyone ready.  By utilising two stylist's, it takes half as much time to get ready and it's a lot more relaxing on the day.  Not to mention that you won't need to get up as early!

Majority of the time its best to get a makeup artist and a seperate Hairstylist. A lot of makeup artist more so, do makeup and can do a little hair. (Not so much the other way round) But i would choose the best person for the job in each field. I team up with a makeup and i think we are of equal ability.

Personally, when there are more that 3 people for hair and makeup, I always have a second artist working with me. On average, it takes an hour and a half to do hair and makeup, so if you have 3 clients, that's 4.5hrs, not including set up and pack up time. Also consider the time you need to be ready. If you're having a morning wedding and need to be ready for your photographer at say, 9am, do you really want to be up at 4.30am. In these instances, I will do makeup and have a hair stylist work with me. Sometimes it may take a team of artists to successfully have you and your bridal party ready on time. This allows for a stressfree and enjoyable experience.

Hope this helps,

Marianna

It depends on the amount of hair and makeup they need to do I guess.  You don't want your stylist/makeup artist tiring out too much as quality of work might decline.  But i don't see anything wrong with it if there's only a few people and you have a trial for both hair and makeup. xx

In our opinion its best to have one Hair Stylist & one Makeup Artist.

This will ensure consistancy throughout the Bridal Party.

Size of the wedding really shouldn't matter that much as your team (Hair & Makeup Artists) would have allowed enough time for the size of your Wedding Party.

For Example we work as 1 Hair & 1 Makeup artist Team. We have done weddings as large as 15 people down to 1 person. Its all in your timing.

If you decide to go with the one person doing both, I would suggest asking if they have done both Hair & Makeup for the amount of people in your Party and checking the timing will work in with your schedule (Photographer etc).

If possible I would hire from the same provider, as in some cases its difficult to keep your timing with someone you havent worked with before.

HI bride

It's better to choose someone that specializes in either hair or makeup, especially if you have afew girls to be done.
