How much should hair and makeup usually cost?

Is it more cost effective to pay for one person to do both? :) I am happy to pay for quality.

Experienced makeup artists charge around $100 per person and depending on the intricacy of the hairstyle I believe it is about $100 - $125 for hair. It is not always ideal to have someone do both because then that person has to rush to complete everything in time or make everyone get up extra early. Having a hair stylist and a separate MUA means they can each work on one person and then swap until all bridesmaids and bride are done. In addition, the really great MUAs and Hair stylists often focus on one area and don't do both.

Hello it depends on state to state. In Tasmania brides hair normal $95 extra long $120. Makeup from $75-$100. I run my business as a Bridal specialist so I can give brides the best service. So try to find someone who specialises as you will get a better job.

If your happy to pay for quality, its recommend to have a separate makeup artist and a separate hairdresser, as this is their field of expertise. It is often easier to have both, so that the services can be provided in a timely manner and less time is needed sitting around waiting. As mentioned in other responses, whilst the makeup artist is applying makeup to one client, the hairdresser can be doing another's hair. The cost can be more, however its dependent on prices.

I do also agree, that having the same person do both makeup and hair can be more convenient and potentially more cost effective, dependent on prices and how many people require services on the day.

Hi,I only specialise in hair so I can't help you with the cost of makeup.I definitely would have someone that specialises in each field especially if there is a larger group to be done.Nobody wants to be stressed on their wedding day if hair/makeup artist is running short of time.As for price I think that is entirely up to the individual and what your budget maybe.I do recommend to do your research and have a trial. This would definitely put your mind to rest.

I'd say an average of $200pp for both hair and makeup is a good average.

Good morning,

It is more cost effective for one person to do both as you are not paying for 2 lots of travel fees. The quality is still exactly the same from a professional and the whole day until your photographer arrives is then booked just for you:) Quality hair and make-up provided by a professional who is a fully insured, reputable and experienced should cost $200-$300 per person.

It may or may not be more cost effective to have one person do both hair and make up.

All artists charge differently. Make sure you do your research and look at their work in both fields. Generally most artists are stronger in one field, still though you can find someone thats good at both. Also take time into consideration, its usually better to have a seperate hair and make up artist in larger groups so they can work on two people at the same time and not have to start at the crack of dawn :)

I agree with Emilly. You can save money on travel having the one do both but it might also cost you in time. You can have 1 person having their hair done while another gets their makeup done. You would expect to pay for hair between $100-$180 from the market research I have done. For makeup between $100 and $150. Travel is then applied on to of this price. I have makeup artists work for me as I do not do makeup personally myself.

I hope this helps : )
