Veil lengths explained

Hello. I've bought my wedding dress and am now considering a veil. Are there any guidelines for which veil length typically goes with dress style? Or is it more about hair length/style? Would love some tips.

The right veil can complement your dress and overall look beautifully. Here are some general guidelines to consider:

  • For Ball Gowns or A-line Dresses: Longer veils, like cathedral or chapel-length, work beautifully as they add drama and elegance to a formal silhouette.
  • For Fitted Dresses: Veils like fingertip or waltz-length offer a softer, balanced look without overshadowing the sleek style of your gown.
  • For Minimalist or Short Dresses: Birdcage or shoulder-length veils can add a chic, vintage vibe or keep things modern and playful.

While dress style is important, your hair length and hairstyle also play a role. For intricate updos, a lighter veil won’t compete, while cascading waves pair beautifully with a longer veil. Ultimately, try different options during your fitting to see what feels most "you"! ??

Hello, it depends on your personal style and what goes with your dress design and how you are going to wear your hair. Talk is through when you go for your appointment or create a mood board of what you like on others and show the designer.

There are no set rules when it comes to veils, every bride has their own ideas, and veil styles are often deteremined by the style of the gown.  For example a simp'e gown can carry a more intricate veil, ie lace trim, pearl or crystal trim, and any length.  A more detailed gown would suggest the need for a more simple veil.  Your stylist will be able to make recommendations when trying on gowns.  it is advisable to try on a few veils when trying on gowns as it will give you more insight.

Hi

It is more about your style and vibe for the day! A short veil (waist length) is more fun and flirty, with the longer veils being a bit more dramatic. For the Princess style gowns I prefer the veil to extend slightly longer than the train and for the more fitted gowns only slightly longer or the same length works quite well. There are many options available with veils, with vows or initials embroidered on to the lower edge, to matching dress lace, etc! Your guests are staring at your veil and back of your dress throughout your ceremony so be sure to keep that in mind!

Hope this helps,

Joanne
