"Sally from Wedding Gown Specialists is the best. I was looking for a good and reasonably priced place, but I couldn't find anything to deliver my dress on time. I found a Specialist near me from their website.  She told me to bring it in and could get it back to me in one week — I was overjoyed. The price was great but how the dress came out was even better. They did such an amazing job, and Sally was so kind. She was so focused on me being happy with the quality of the work she almost forgot to charge me. If you need your gowns and veils to be cleaned.” Myrlande E.D.

FAQ

Our specialists carefully handclean every gown with gentle chemicals that dissolve the different kinds of stains.  Then your gown is rinsed in pure solvent until it is completely clean.

Your completely clean gown is carefully packed with acid-free tissue in a museum-quality wedding chest that is also completely acid-free.  This protects your gown from the air and light that cause unprotected gowns to yellow.

Spills such as soda, wine and cake (many times caused by a guest and unnoticed by the bride) contain sugar and often dry without leaving a visible mark.  Sugar is not dissolved during ordinary drycleaning and caramelizes over time into ugly brown stains.  We take extra steps to be sure all stains, both seen and unseen, are removed.

The use of any solvent, no matter which kind, generates carbon emissions—even if only from the electricity needed for machinery.  We asked Carbonfund.org to calculate the carbon emissions generated by your travel to and from our location, the cleaning and preservation process, and the manufacture of the wedding chest itself.  Our donations to Carbonfund.org offset the entire carbon footprint, and Carbonfund.org uses our donations to fund worldwide reforestation projects.

Our trademarked MuseumCareTM wedding chest is completely acid-free, not just pH neutral.  Boxes that are only pH-neutral are not as safe for your gown.  They can re-acidify because the neutralizer is water soluble and will dissolve.  Never use ordinary boxes and tissue.  They are heavily acidic and cause yellowing.  In fact ordinary boxes and tissue can “scorch” gowns, which leaves dark brown streaks wherever the fabric touches the box.

No.  Vacuum sealing can trap moisture and cause mildew.  Also, the moisture and the electrostatic charge from the plastic combine to set wrinkles in the gown that no amount of pressing can remove.

You can see your gown through an oval window made of oriented polyester, a chemically-inert material that will not yellow or damage your gown.  The window contains no plasticizers.  It does not transmit oils, greases or volatile aromatics and will withstand temperature extremes ranging from minus 70o

Such things as a headpiece and veil, petticoat, gloves, garter, and handkerchief may be stored with your gown.  There is an additional charge for storing the gown and veil separately.  Shoes should not be stored with the gown because fumes from the leather and glue may cause damage.

100% international guarantee against caramelized sugar stains or yellowing of your gown.

The guarantee is not voided, but improper handling of the gown may cause damage.  If your gown is handled excessively or soiled it should be cleaned and preserved again.

How to travel with your wedding gown for a destination wedding

Hello, I'm getting married in Thailand in late 2023... starting to think about my wedding dress and wondered what's the best way to travel overseas with it, if you had any tips about packing it in my luggage, and then storage/care for it once I arrive? Thank you!

Wedding Gown Specialists

There was a time when you could carry your wedding gown on board in a garment bag and hang the bag in a storage closet. Today most airlines insist you fold the garment bag into the overhead bin, and your wedding gown is sure to wrinkle. Especially if you are changing planes, you will do better to pack your gown in something you can carry with you onto the plane--something such as a box or small suitcase that will fit in the overhead.

Want a wedding chest that will protect your gown, can go through security with you, and fits into the overhead bin on board?  Ask the Certified Wedding Gown Specialist™ near you for help.

If you chhose to pack your gown yourself, line the box or suitcase you are using with tissue and lay your wedding gown with the front side down over the box so that about one-third of your wedding gown is over the box, one-third is at one end of the box and the other one-third at the other end of the box.  Make sure you have your wedding gown centered in the box. The part that is front side down should be spread out flat so there are no creases or folds.

Beginning with the side seams, fold the skirt lengthwise over bunched tissue until the skirt is no wider than the box. Then add more tissue and fold the bottom of the skirt into the box.

Add still more tissue and fold the top of your wedding gown into the box. The top of the gown will now be facing up. In other words, visualize yourself doing the impossible: laying on your stomach with your legs folded over backwards while your head and shoulders are laying on top of your legs–-facing up!

Use still more tissue to stuff the bodice and cushion anything else such as bows or sleeves. If prongs are holding the crystals on your wedding gown in place, be sure to put tissue over the prongs so they do not cause snags.

When you are finished, the dress should not move or “dance,” even if you shake the box. Save the dancing for your wedding day!

Is it cheaper to buy a dress and get it altered or have it made from scratch?

I was surprised that the alterations quote for a dress I was looking at came in at $500... now I'm thinking is it better to have a dress made?

Wedding Gown Specialists

Overall alterations are probably less expensive although It does depend upon both the design and the fabric you choose.  For example, a custom-designed wedding gown made from a synthetic fiber such as polyester would probably cost less than altering a silk dress you buy.  Of course if the silk gown is on sale, that, too, might change your decision.  In any case you should try on several types of gowns before you make your choice because the dress you desugb fior yourself or choose from a picture may not be the most flattering to you.

What do I do if I've got my period on my wedding day?

Ummmm this question is a little tmi. But I'm curious what your advice is if I've got my period on my wedding day. Do you know how other brides have handled this? Dress stuff, underwear, bloating etc. I want all the options! Appreciated.

Take safety pins and a needle and thread with you.  Not likely there will be a stain on the exterior shell of your gown, but if the worst happens you can make an emergency dart (overlap the stain with fabric) to hide the accident.  And don't worry--after the wedding an experienced cleaner will be able to remove the stain.
