OVERVIEW

Wedding dress designer, Susan Ogg established her custom made bridal and fashion label in East Brisbane in 1989. Now with more than 30 years of experience, she has become highly regarded and recognised for her quality workmanship in bridal, eveningwear, and tailored day wear.

Susan is passionate about creating a gown which will flatter and enhance any figure, and uses silk fabrics, and French and Italian laces, to achieve a really luxurious finish. Susan does not provide a collection of standard gown styles, so no two gowns are the same.

Having a gown made to measure means you can have a unique gown which totally reflects your style, and has all the details you are inspired by, but haven't been able to find in a ready to wear dress. Susan spends a lot of time working through a bride's ideas, and melds them with her own, to ensure the finished gown will make the bride look exactly as she had imagined.

Susan can create bridal wear that can be as traditional, vintage, or contemporary in style as you wish. She uses traditional tailoring techniques, beginning with a calico toile for each garment, followed by about 5 fittings. This allows you to see your dress evolve, providing absolute peace of mind that it is just as imagined, from fit and style, to the final hand beading.

If you are looking for a personal approach,  where the same person who discusses your initial ideas, also sews your gown, then Susan will be delighted to work with you to create the perfect dress for your special occasion.

Thank you for viewing some of my real brides on their special day.

About

I began this business over 30 years ago. My passion and inspiration comes from working with beautiful fabrics, and my wish to ensure each gown really flatters the figure it is made for, so that each bride will feel fabulous on her wedding day. I have been working from the same building in East Brisbane for the last 21 years, and am well established in the local business community. My honesty and willingness to "go the extra mile" to ensure it is perfect, is reflected in my customer reviews.

FAQ

Work will not begin until 2-3 months out from the date of your wedding, and the dress is adjusted throughout the making process until it is finished.

I begin the process of actually cutting and sewing your dress 2-3 months out from the date of your wedding, depending on the complexity of the job and how far away you live. You will need to have a booking with me many months before than though.

As soon as possible. I am usually booked out 5 - 8 months in advance depending on the month of your wedding. Remember your dress won’t be made until much closer to the date of your wedding, so it will fit like a glove.

If you are having your dress made to measure by a professional like myself,  here in Australia, NO, as adjusting the dress to fit is part of the process.

She was so flexible with my work roster as I have to travel a lot and would see me on Sundays which was amazing. The dress is absolutely beautiful, I couldn't be happier.

Susan is truly a master at her craft. I didn't give her much to go on when we first met but with her knowledge and expertise she recommended what she thought would suit my body type and what would be the most flattering whilst looking stylish. My dress was of a high quality and I loved it - perfect for a beach wedding. Susan was fantastic to deal with and very organised and thorough in her approach - would very much recommend her.

Help me on wedding gowns! What is off-the-rack, sample & brand new gowns

I've been getting confusing advise from friends, can someone please help. What exactly is off-the-rack gown? What is the difference between off-the-rack and brand new gown? Is off-the-rack gown considered a BRAND NEW gown? (some shops said so) What to expect from an off-the-shelf wedding gown? Will it require fixing? How about brand new gown? Will they be in a better condition without defects? I want a lace gown, so I am worried about defects on off-the-rack gown given its delicate nature.

Hi there

Off the rack means purchasing a gown/style which is already made up (usually overseas). You go into the store and try on a dress and then if you decide this is the "one" the store order one for you in that style (so yes it is brand new and nobody has tried it on), However they can only order them in the nearest size which will fit your measurements. This means you will have to pay extra to have it altered to fit your body properly. This is on top of the purchase price. Off the rack gowns only come in standard sizing (same as a normal store).

Samples means that bridal stores decide to sell off some of the gowns they have had on the racks "to try on". These are usually styles they are not going to stock any more so they sell them off at a much reduced rate. They can have some shop "soiling" on them as other brides will have tried them on, and in some cases, some little thread pulls, but as they are sold at a fraction of the new price it can be a great option for a small girl (usually only size6,8,10), who is on a tight budget. It will still alterations on top of the price to make the fit and length perfect.

tailor made wedding dresses

Hi, I'm very picky when it comes to styling and have a certain vision in mind for my wedding dress. I was wondering how much it would cost roughly to have a dress custom made to my vision? Also if you could point me in the right direction that would be great! :)

Susan Ogg Designer

Hi there

Costs to have a gown made to measure here in Australia by a professional designer/dressmaker will vary greatly. Most people will have a base starting price and this will vary according to the styles of gowns they make and the sorts of fabrics they use. You will require at least 4-5 fittings and when work starts again varies between businesses (at least 2-3 months, and often 6 months).

I can really only advise you on my process which does require at least 5 fittings, beginning with a calico toile. Mine is a proper bespoke process so you can choose whatever style or vision you have in mind. For me the starting price is usually around $2000. The other thing you need to keep in mind is that small operators like me do book out a long way in advance as if you don't employ staff there is a limit to how many jobs you can fit in, so book someone at least 8 months in advance, unless you are going through a big business.
