About
Cake decorating for me began in my late teens with a basic class on creating a flower & four books on the subject! I had the honour of creating beautiful 21st, engagement & wedding cakes for family & friends very early in my career, as a result my passion for cake decorating grew. I'm well known for my handmade sugar & wafer-paper flowers which I also teach to other decorators, my work has been published internationally & recently was voted as 1 of the 9 top wedding cake designers in Australia.

You can either contact me via email or by phone and we can discuss the available times to meet. I am very flexible as I know how difficult it can be to find time to meet with suppliers when organising your special day. Usually I hold my consultations on Saturday's however, I am flexible if need be to organise any other day that suits you both.
Yes definitely! During your consultation I will offer you a selection of the cake flavours that I have available at the time, usually between 5 - 8 which you may choose from. These are also perfectly paired with a complimenting filling however, you always have a choice if you want to alter it or add to it.
Contact Sweet Affection Cake Designs either via phone or email. If you would like to place an order you will be required to pay a 50% deposit. This secures your date and the final balance will be requqired 14 days prior to your wedding day. This deposit is non-refundable as the date is held for you, but at my discretion, it can be transferred to a late date if need be. (View my Terms & Conditions on my website)

You may send through an email with a photo(s) as well as letting me know of the number of guests you will be having at your wedding, prior to booking your consultation with me, then during our meeting I will discuss price and design details with you further.
You may bring any photos of cakes or designs that you like. I have quite a few display wedding cakes that you can also view and we can discuss details from any of them then put together a design that you like. You should have the date, number of guest you with to serve, estimate of time your guests will be arriving at the venue.
Yes you certainly can. I will calculate the number and size of tiers that you will need to have sufficient cake for your guests, however if you would like your cake to be taller we can incorporate fake tiers and no one will be none the wiser.
We cannot recreate cakes exactly as any photo. All cakes are works of art and each decorator is an artist, we all have our own different styles, tools and methods of creating custom cakes. We will use any provided photos an inspiration and attempt to recreate the cake as close to what is in the photo as possible as long as we can locate and purchase the materials used.
Yes most definitely. I am very passionate about baking as I am about decorating. I'm a strong believer that my cakes must taste as good as they look. I make all my fillings from scratch and use only fresh, natural ingredients.
I usually ask for a minimum of 2 months notice for buttercream cakes to ensure that the date you require is available, however if sugar decorations are required or if you will be needing a large cake I will require 6 months notice. This will ensure that I only take on the number of orders to be able to complete each one at a high standard.
I am happy to create either style of wedding cake for my clients.
Buttercream cakes have a more rustic, relaxed appeal whereas fondant can be much more complex and detailed.
My buttercream cakes are filled with freshly made Italian Meringue Buttercream with added fruit curds to flavour. In summer or warmer/more humids months I will also add some chocolate ganache to the buttercream which helps to make the cake more stable. All my buttercream cakes are transported to the venue already assembled therefore the ganache helps to prevent them from shifting during this time.
* Designs can vary, from semi naked, fully covered and smooth finish, textured either with horizontal, vertical or diagonal strokes or a rough texture which is achieved using an off-set spatula.
* Fondant covered cake designs on the other hand are limitless. You can have something simple with smooth clean lines or as fancy as you like using fresh, sugar or wafer-paper flowers, lace, pleats, gathers, piped or hand cut applique flowers.

There are many bakers who bake mainly mud cakes however I bake everything from scratch using my personal recipes that I have tweaked and retweaked over the last 30 years and I offer my customers original homemade style fillings that I make into fruit curds or gels which we add to our chocolate ganache or buttercream fillings. Very rarely do I sell mud cakes as I have so many original cake flavours available that my customers prefer to go with something different and unpredictable.
My white cakes are the most popular for weddings, some of these are;

How far in advance before the big day do you order your cake?

Having been a baker for over 30 years I would recommend a minimum of at least 2-3 months prior. However, this still doesn’t guarantee that a qualified & skilled baker/decorator will be available to take on your order.
Bakers with experience in all aspects of cake design often book out quickly so it’s wise to book ahead. I currently am meeting with couples and booking for early 2020.
A wedding cake takes time from start to finish. The design process alone can take several weeks, then comes the quoting especially for something large and intricate. Multi tiered cakes require internal supports as well. Many times there are also tools and supplies we need to source that aren’t an every day item and often we need to order online from overseas.
I hope this information helps you make a decision. There’s another important advantage in booking all your suppliers early. It allows you to work out your budget early on and allows you plan instead of leaving things to the last minute and you don’t have the money for it therefore you have no choice but to make do with the suppliers who are available, who may not be skilled or experienced to do the job as well.

Cakes of Distinction focuses mainly on weddings. Our couples normally book anything between 6 - 12 months ahead. However due to Covid and weddings constantly being postponed, it would be best to book as early as possible as orders are continuously being reschuffled.
