If I read that correctly, you lodged a signed and witnessed (completed) Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) at a Marriage Registry.

A NOIM is lodged with a Celebrant 1-18 months before a marriage is the be solemnised. A NOIM can also be lodged with a Celebrant at a Marriage Registry, and that seems to be what has been done.

The NOIM cannot be revoked  as such, since it is a legal document outlining an intention at the time of signing and once given to a Celebrant (lodged) cannot leave the custody and control of the Celebrant, unless transferred to another Celebrant, until the marriage is solemnised whereupon the NOIM goes to the Marriage Registry with other documents including a signed Official Marriage Certificate and associated Declaration

If you don’t want to proceed with the marriage, you simply allow the NOIM to expire. Nothing needs to be done by you. You simply take no action and it will expire after 18 months.

If you do wish to proceed with a marriage ceremony but wish to use a different Celebrant, you can have the NOIM transferred or can create a new NOIM if there is time. Note also that each lodgement and each transfer can incur fees.transfers

Hi Bride if you wish to revoke the Notice of Intention to Marry you can ask the Celebrant who holds the document to transfer it to another or you can go and ask your Celebrant to return it to you it stays with her until your wedding it isnt lodged with the Births Deaths and Marriages until after you have been married.

Hope this helps you

Hello Bride

I think you mean a NOIM (Notice of Intended Marriage) form - is that correct?

If both of you signed and submitted the NOIM to the Registry Office, both of you would need to contact them, and ask to withdraw it. If only one of you signed and submitted it, only that person needs to withdraw it.

Good luck

Hello

I believe that this is actually two questions.

How to revoke a NOIM? The NOIM is not lodged until the ceremony is completed. So therefore just ask your Celebrant to destroy that copy and start again.

How to lodge a marriage without a Celebrant? First contact the local Registrar at Births Deaths and Marriages and be guided by their advise.

You can be married at Courthouse by a Registrar and they will  lodge all paper work

Thanks

Hi there,

I think this question is in two parts - how to revoke a NOIM? You don't really need to, you just dont marry on that date. If you want to change celebrants you can give the form to the new celebrant also.

How to lodge a marriage without celebrant? This varies in availability state to state, for example, in Canberra the only option is through a celebrant but there are lots that will do legals only services for you. In Sydney you can go through the state marriage registry via Births, Deaths & Marriages.

Hope that helps!

Kindest,

Jazz
