Do celebrants come with marriage documents and how early can I file them after the wedding?

I was wondering if marriage celebrants usually come with their own marriage documents included in their package? Also, is there a timeframe of when I should file my marriage documents after the wedding? How early is too early/how long can I wait? Thanks!

Dear Cindy,

Celebrants should take care of all your legal paper work.  You will not have to worry about any of this on the day.  You will be signing three certificates on the day of your wedding and the Celebrant will have all that ready for you. You will also require two witness's over the age of 18 to witness your signature on your wedding day.  I usually give my couples the form to fill in to get their original.  This is (on average) about six weeks.

Best of luck,

Cindy.

Hi

Celebrants download and print off the Notice of Intended Marriage and the Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marriage. The Notice of Intended Marriage must be filled out and lodged with the celebrant at least one calendar month before the wedding. Usually the form can be completed, signed by the couple and witnessed by the celebrant at a meeting. The Declaration can be filled out at that meeting and then signed by the couple and witnessed by the celebrant at a meeting a few days before the wedding.

The celebrant brings her marriage register and prepares the Official Certificate of Marriage and the Marriage Certificate for signing and witnessing at the ceremony. She gives the bride and groom the Marriage Certificate and sends off the other 3 to Births, Deaths and Marriages within 2 weeks of the wedding. There is a cost for lodging the Official Certificate of Marriage which is usually included in her costs.

The celebrant should be able to take the stress away by doing all this.

Hi, the Celebrant has all of the Marriage documents. The first official document is the Notice of Intention to Marry. Your Celebrant will show how to fill this out. It is a very important document as the information on this form will be copied directly onto the Certificates, so it must be filled out correctly. The Notice of Intention to Marry should be lodged with your Celebrant no longer than 18 months and no less than one month before the wedding. Your Certificates and the Declaration of no impediment will be filled out by your Celebrant before the wedding and the Certificates all signed and witnessed and dated on the day of the wedding. Your Celebrant will advise you on this at your meetings. The necessary official documents will be lodged with the State Department of Births Deaths and Marriages in the State in which you were married. Your Celebrant lodges these within 2 weeks after the wedding. I do hope this information is helpful. Regards Sharen Pelly.

Don't worry about Marriage Documents as your Celebrant will take care of it all.

1. The first document you sign will be the Notice of Intended Marriage which must be lodged between 18 months and 1 month of the wedding ceremony date. The NOIM is the document to be completed with all your identifications to prove who you are e.g. passports, birth certificates, driving licence. This document is filed until after the wedding ceremony.

2. Just prior to the wedding you will sign a Declaration of No Legal Impediment which is declaring that nothing is stopping you legally from marrying.

3. On the wedding day you will sign Official Marriage Certificate, copy Certificate of Marriage and the Presentation Certificate.

4. You keep the Presentation Certificate

5. Celebrant completes the NOIM, and along with Official Marriage Certificate and Declaration of no legal impediment - lodges with BDM.

6. Celebrant can also lodge a completed an Application for Marriage Certificate which you need to change your name.

Hi Cindy,

All Marriage Celebrants carry their own marriage documents in their package. The Celebrant will give you the decorative Certificate on the day of your wedding and then it is their responsibility to send the rest of your documents to Births, Deaths and Marriages in the State you marry within 14 days. Depending on which state you are in some Celebrants are allowed to apply for your official Marriage Certificate at the time of lodgement while in other states the couple must do this themselves through their BDM Website. Your chosen Celebrant should be able to explain the process in your state. Good luck with the wedding.

The chosen celebrant will fill our a notice of intention to marry form with you at least 1 month before your ceremony takes place, on the day marriage certificates will be signed, and the celebrant will then send the appropriate forms of to the BDM. Once the wedding is over give it about two weeks then you should be able to send paperwork to BDM to acquire your official marriage certificate. This form can be downloaded from the Births Deaths and Marriages

Hi, Trust in your celebrant they will supply all paperwork, if you are not sure about something ask them. Paperwork is not your worry that's what you pay your celebrant for.

Good luck and much happiness...

All Celebrants supply the couple the Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) Form free, which is submitted to the Celebrant at least 30 days out from the Wedding (the sooner the better). The Celebrant files all the documents to Births, Deaths & Marriages (BDM) in the relevant State for the couple. Some BDM's can take up to 25 working days to process these documents, due to the high Wedding season. Couples need to apply online for their documents after their Wedding. Congratulations Cindy S!

Hi Cindy. Your marriage celebrant will provide the documents required for your marriage and you will generally fill them out together so there's no need for you to source any of your own forms. Seeing as your wedding is just over one year away you can most certainly start filling out forms now if you so wish. The initial form (Notice of Intended Marriage) must be filled out at least one month before your wedding date though but you look quite organised so I'm sure you won't wait until then. Happy wedding planning and please let me know if you have any further questions, I'd be happy to help.
