When the couple meet with the Marriage Celebrant, they will complete and sign the Notice Of Intended Marriage document. For this, the couple will have to provide the originals of following documents:
1. Original Birth Certificates (if born in Australia).
2. Drivers Licence and/or Australian/Overseas Passport.
3. Proof of Age Card with photo (if you do not have a Drivers Licence or Passport).
4. Divorce Certificate if previously married.
5. Death Certificate if previous spouse passed away.
If you were born in Australia, it is an easy process to apply for a replacement Birth Certificate (online or in person) from Births, Deaths & Marriages.
It is a requirement for the Marriage Celebrant to sight the original Birth Certificate.
If you cannot find your divorce papers, then you can contact the Family Law Court in the state where your marriage was dissolved, and they will issue a new Divorce Certificate. There will be a fee involved and it should be quick.
It is a requirement for the Marriage Celebrant to sight the original Divorce Certificate.
As your Marriage Celebrant, I will be taking care of all the Legal paperwork so that you enjoy the excitement of getting ready for and enjoying the most memorable day.
Yes - I will prepare the readings and the ceremony together with you so that you know exactly what will be included in the ceremony.
I will bring the readings and all the other documents to the ceremony so that you do not have to worry about the paperwork.
This is on me.

Get Expert AdviceHow do I go about officiating my Hindu wedding if the priest is not recognised as a marriage celebrant?
I will be having a traditional Hindu wedding with a priest performing all the rites and rituals. Our priest performs many weddings but is not a marriage celebrant to officiate the wedding on the day with signing the paperwork. How do I go about this?
Ahmet Aydogan Marriage Celebrant
Your Priest can perform your religious ceremony in a traditional Hindu wedding, but it will not be recognised as a legal marriage in Australia.
An Authorised Marriage Celebrant will have to perform a civil ceremony and lodge this with the Births, Deaths and Marriages office in the state where the ceremony will be performed. You will have to get in touch with the Marriage Celebrant and complete the Notice of Intended Marriage form 1 month before the actual marriage date (at the latest).
Do I need to register my wedding if I got married in a church?
This might seem like a dumb question but we were married in a church last year and got our marriage certificate from the priest - do I need to register this or is it automatically registered? Thanks
Ahmet Aydogan Marriage Celebrant
As with all Civil Celebrants, the officiating priest has the responsibility to register your marriage with the correct authority.
Who exactly can be a witness?
My fiance and I are having a small ceremony and just want it to be us. We are hoping the celebrant can be one of our witnesses. As for the other, can it be one of us or does have to be someone else? I can't find any specific information online anywhere. We want it to be as small and quiet as possible. Thank you in advance for any help :)
Ahmet Aydogan Marriage Celebrant
The Celebrant or the couple getting married can not be a witness to the wedding at all.
The minimum number of people required for a legal wedding ceremony in Australia is 5.
The couple, the celebrant and 2 witnesses who are over 18 years of age and understands what they are being a witness too .
