Hi There, I have a general question. My best friend is getting married in 15 months and the couple asked if I could officiate. Now, I was honoured but looking at it in a practical sense, I have reservations. eg the course, costs and ongoing registration. Let alone the nerves about doing this right, without messing it up. Besides this isn't going to be a side career going forward. However, I'm keen to make it happen in some fashion or another. What is the bare minimum officiate input from a celebrant? Can myself and family to bulk of the vows and readings etc? Any advice would be helpful. Regards Angelo

Hi Angelo
Firstly, it is an honour to be asked by your friend to officiate, however you are spot on with the amount or money and moreso work that goes into becoming qualified as a Celebrant.
I assume your friend is asking you beause they are close to you and know you will know them better than anyone which is such an honour as a friend.
As an alternative you could 'officiate' the wedding, minus the legal requirements that could be performed by a qualified celebrant. You would perform the bulk of the ceremony including the story and other elements they would like and the celebranat could step in for the legal wording as required by law. They could also have the official legal ceremony on a separate occasion with a legal Celebrant so they are officially married and then on the day the ceremony performed by you is a non legal ceremony because all the legal work has been done.

Are there any nice wedding vows for guys? I struggle with putting words together for this sort of thing, would like some thought starters please.

If your wedding day is a few months away start taking some notes on your phone when you think of something special about your partner, or if they say something funny or silly or do something funny or romantic etc. That way when the time comes to write your vows you have lots of material to work with!
Most of all...try not to leave it to the last minute, ensure you ask your celebrant to read over your vows as well just as a second opinion.

There are lots of examples on the internet, but these are the links that I send to my couples to support their vow writing! My advice is to start a page in your notes on your phone and jot down anything that you think of, or see or hear in the months leading up to when your vows are required to your celebrant.
