So you have decided to tie the knot? Congratulations!!

In order to get married in Australia, there are a few steps you will need to follow.

  1. Check your Eligibility: You must be at least 18, single, and not closely related.
  2. Lodge the NOIM: You will need to meet either online or in person with your chosen celebrant to complete the Notice of Intended Marriage. This can needs to be done at least 1 month (up to 18 months) before your big day.
  3. Documents Needed: You will need to be able to prove you are who you say you are. Bring proof of identity (passport/birth certificate) and, if applicable, divorce or death certificates from any previous marriages.
  4. Ceremony: The next documents will all be completed on the day of your ceremony. Here you wil have your wedding officiated by an authorised celebrant and you will need two witnesses present.
  5. After the Ceremony: Your celebrant will handle the paperwork, and you’ll receive a ceremonial marriage certificate. I as your celebrant will also apply for you to receive your official marriage certificate in the post!
