My name is Claire and aside from being a massive romantic, I have worked for many years performing and MC-ing events, so I have loads of experience. But I became a celebrant because I was attending far too many sweet but (lets me honest) basic weddings!! So I figured that becoming a celebrant would be a great use of my skills. And boy, has it been the best thing I have ever done!

I came into this game hoping to offer something new, fun and energetic. So while you are getting ready to make your vows, I vow to you, that I can give you the ceremony you have always dreamed of. A marriage ceremony is supposed to be beyond magical. It is the time that will be forever remembered; when you declared your love for one another in front of your whole crew.

Do Marriage Celebrants take care of all the paperwork for the marriage?

I sure do! I take care of all the legal documents that lead you to having your marriage registered with Birth Deaths and Marriages in the state where your marriage was solemnised. It can be pretty daunting trying to grasp all the needs for legal requirements, but I guide you EVERY step of the way! I have plenty of advice on the best/easiest way to smash all that boring paperwork and concentrate on the fun stuff!

Who writes the wedding vows?

I am super flexible on how the vows are written/who writes them. You have to find a process that works for you! Everyone is different; some people/couples find it super easy to whip up some words and others find it really hard to express how much the other person means to them in a perfect little package of words!

With me, I can write everything for you if you would like, I can run mini workshops with my couples who really want to try and tackle the vows on their own, or I can keep writing and sending you different versions until you both find vows that you love.

I try really hard to make sure that the vows are personal. Rather than talk about "the theories of love and marriage", I focus on getting you both to put your own personalities in the vows, so that you are promising something that comes from your heart in words that resonate with you and your relationship!

Such a beautiful soul that really does put her entire heart into being a celebrant. The ceremony was so important to me and Claire made it amazing from start to finish. All the guests had tears of happiness and said it was the best ever.

Any advice on writing my vows to my wife-to-be?

Hi Nathan!

First! Asking for help is the best start and you have already covered that by asking here! So you are off to a flying start!

Your celebrant will be there to help you for sure!

Sometimes I find that I ask a groom to write how they feel in any format they feel like the words flow eg, dot points, short sentances or one big chuncky paragraph - whatever works for them first up. Then we workshop it together to get it to work in a classic vow format or find a way to make it their own in a way where their dot points etc sound more smooth and articulate. Image that you are giving me all the "golden nuggets" of info and I (the celebrant) fill in the blanks and make it work.

do you think celebrants would be up for flying to officiate a destination wedding?

would i have to pay for their flights accommodation food etc

Hi!

That is a great question! I guess, celebrants all have their own personal commitments to consider.

I can only speak for myself when I say that I am lucky to be free of any big commitments (eg children or other work commitments) that would stop me from traveling for a destination wedding.

For example, I have two weddings coming up in Sydney that I am flying to officiate as I currently live in Perth. The additional cost I have asked for is for the couple to pay my flights. They are also paying accommodation for the night before and night of the wedding. Aside from that, my fees for the actual ceremony and the services leading up to the wedding don't change.

If it is a wedding I can drive to (eg, 3 hours away) I ask for an extra amount to cover petrol and accommodation for the night before.

I like to be where I need to be the night before, as you can never be to sure that you wont have a delayed flight or car trouble, so having that extra night allows for security.

I hope that gives you an idea of what you need to consider and what we as celebrants need to consider also.

how do i choose who signs as our witness?

Hi. You want to be able to look at that wedding certificate forever and be really happy that person was there for you. They may or may not be in your bridal party, but whoever they are, they should be the kind of person that whenever you think of them they make you smile.

Of course they need to be over 18. Keep in mind that if this person doesnt understand english very well, you may be asked to get an interpreter.
