FAQ
· Notice of Intended Marriage form [or NOIM]
· Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marriage [or DONLI]
If you were born in Australia, I am required to sight your passports OR your original birth certificates and driver's licenses, and divorce or death papers if you have been previously married. If you are not an Australian citizen you will need to bring your passports to our initial meeting for me to sight.
The Notice of Intended Marriage form must be witnessed and signed by myself, your Celebrant. The form can either be completed electronically or by hand with black ink in BLOCK caps, no later than one month before your wedding date.
The Notice of Intended Marriage is valid for 18 months. Given a bit of notice, I can definitely reschedule the wedding with you.
Witnesses can be family members or friends, providing they are over the age of 18 years. They may be from overseas. Only 2 witnesses allowed.
Yes, this is always lovely as it adds a personal dimension to your Ceremony. It's you day, your way!!
This really is up to you. One or two is preferable to ensure that the Ceremony is not too long.
A perfect time for the Ceremony is 20 minutes but this may vary depending on how many readings, poems or rituals you include.
Not if you don't want to - this is totally your choice.
No, not at all! Punctuality is good on your big day!

Get Expert AdviceThere are so many choices for a celebrant... How can we narrow down and pick one for us?
We are having just a small wedding - 20 guests. It will be a simple ceremony followed by the reception. We don't want to spend too much, but would like a celebrant who can make the short amount of time special.
Can I submit a NOIM to the registry before my divorce is finalised?
My divorce (joint application)is currently booked in to be heard August 7th and we are planning to be married on September 22nd. Can we lodge a NOIM to make sure we meet the 1-month requirement whilst the divorce is being processed and show it finalised before the wedding day?
JN Celebrancy - Ceremonies with a Difference
Yes, so long as the divoce is finalised more than one month prior to your wedding date!
Is it possible to sign for a marriage but not register it until 4 months later
We have booked our church wedding but it is not an auspicious date for marriage in the Chinese calendar. My parents say it's bad luck to be married then. So we are organising a Chinese tea ceremony 4 months earlier on a good date, but my parents now want a celebrant to officiate and for us to sign and register then, but my bride doesn't want that date on our certificate. Can we sign, but not register it, and just wait for the church wedding to be officially married?
JN Celebrancy - Ceremonies with a Difference
Unfortunately, this would be illegal. Marriages are registered within 14 days of the wedding here in Australia!

I advise my couples to contact 3 Celebrants and when they "get the feeling" that that Celebrant is the one for them, they will know!
