OVERVIEW
Highlights of working with Mike Larkan:
If you're looking for a charming and entertaining marriage celebrant to officiate your Melbourne wedding, channel 10 weatherman Mike Larkan is a superb choice - and a unique one, at that. While many might be surprised to find Mike officiating wedding ceremonies, he's actually been passionate about the industry for many years now. As a matter of fact, this disarming professional has previously played guitar in a wedding band, performed as a wedding DJ, and acted as an MC at weddings - you could say he's a man of many talents!
A successful and much-loved TV personality, Mike is known for his engaging manner, confidence, and gripping stories, many of which he writes himself - a skill he uses to craft each of his ceremonies. Indeed, Mike's ceremonies are chock-full of personal touches and are customised to the individual couple, with this world-class journalist crafting bespoke ceremony scripts that reflect his couples beautifully.
Mike does this by getting to know his couples thoroughly, with this warm, friendly celebrant offering an unlimited amount of email and telephone communication pre-ceremony. A natural-born storyteller, Mike then officiates engaging, modern ceremonies with touches of humour and romance. At weddings, he has guests enthralled, using his confidence in front of crowds to officiate occasions that are both entertaining and moving in equal measure.
Mike is as charismatic as he is talented, with this leading speaker, compere, and marriage celebrant sought-after for all kinds of special events.
"Thanks, Mike! I had a huge number of comments on how good the ceremony was - people loved it and thought you were great. More importantly, Matt and I couldn't have asked for more. It was perfect - I can't thank you enough." Sophie

About
For about 25 years I have been presenting the weather with Channel 10. I also host numerous events around town. As Ambassador of the Lost Dogs Home, and a dog owner/lover, Australia Day Ambassador and Variety Club Ambassador I'm always hosting community events. Weekends are also spent with my wife and kids (lots of sport) and catching up with friends, as well as marrying couples. I also love to travel, and do so early January & early July.

FAQ
30 minutes ... but it feels shorter because your guests will feel like they're part of the wedding, not just watching it.
Yes, I have a powerful, portable system. It does not require a power-point, ugly cables or a generator, therefore I can place it anywhere I want to ensure all your guests will hear the ceremony - e.g. in the middle of a park, on the beach or the best position in the venue. I play music prior to the ceremony through it as your guests arrive and then it is yours to use if you wish to play your music via IPad/IPhone, CD or USB Stick during the ceremony. I use a cordless microphone and there's a second cordless mike for you and/or readers to use.
Yes, I lodge the marital documents to Births, Deaths & Marriages within days of you wedding. (I will have already asked you to supply me with birth certificates, drvers licences or passports).

Get Expert AdviceWhat time should my ceremony be?
We're making a ceremony local due to a close family member that can't go far. Our reception venue is 1 hr away, We'll need to arrive around 6:30-7pm at reception. We have a wedding photoshoot prior to the reception venue, this will be about 2 hrs.
Advice for having your dog in your ceremony
Would love some advice! We def want to include our dog in our wedding ceremony! We want him as the ring bearer. Are they are any things to avoid or prepare for in advance? Thanks!
Mike Larkan - Celebrant & MC
Yep, it can add that extra 'wow' to your ceremony. I always suggest that the dog be a surprise (hidden) and the best man pretends he has left the rings somewhere & races off to look for them .... returning with the dog with rings on the dogs collar ??
Do celebrants travel and how far?
Hello. We're considering getting married in the country but are wondering, if we find the celebrant we love, if they generally travel to do weddings. How do they price for that?
Mike Larkan - Celebrant & MC
That is something you need to discuss with your celebrant. Some simply don't travel too far, others don't mind the drive. Often if the venue is more than 45 minutes from their office/home they'll add a travel fee perhaps $50 - $150
. I live in Melbourne's SE and charge a fee to marry couples in the Yarra Valley and often the Dandenongs, for example.

I would suggest putting 2.30 on the invitation or 2.45sharp (there is always bound to be guests arriving late) intending to start your ceremony at 3. This still leaves plenty of time for photos ... the last thing you want to be doing is rushing your photographer. Enjoy your wedding ??.
