Get Expert AdviceCan you sign NOIM form on the wedding day?
My friend got married recently but she felt like she was pressured by the groom's family as everything happened in just a day. The celebrant filled the NOIM form, did the vows and gave the couple a marriage certificate, all on the same day. Is it even legal? Don't you need atleast a month gap between the NOIM lodgement and wedding day? Marriage has not been registered yet so she wants to cancel her wedding. Is there any way?

Hello, I trust you are doing well and that your wedding planning is progressing smoothly. It is important to note that the Notice of Intended Marriage cannot be signed on the wedding day itself. This form must be completed at least one month prior to the wedding date. On the other hand, the Declaration of No Legal Impediment should be signed as close to the wedding day as possible. Some celebrants choose to have this form signed at the wedding rehearsal, which may take place a week or a few days before the actual wedding. Others prefer to have it signed just before the bride walks down the aisle. In this case, the celebrant may have the groom sign the declaration before the bride arrives, and then check in with the bride before she enters the venue, ensuring that everything is in order before asking her to sign the document. These are the two key paperwork requirements that must be completed before the wedding ceremony begins.
