FAQ
Hi there,
The only words that are bound legally to a ceremony are:
- announcement by celebrant to introduce that I am authorised to officiate this ceremony.
-monitum
-your legal vows.
The rest of the wedding is your choice.
Usually it will go something like this:
-introduction and welcoming of guests
-Procession: the bride and groom will enter (with/without bridal party)
-a few words to let everyone know about the story behind this wedding; it can about why you have chosen this date/location; how you met; your struggles and why you have decided to get married.
-acknowledge special someone who cannot make it
-readings/speeches
Monitum + legal vows
Ring exchange/other rituals (have a chat with me and we will come up with something together)

Get Expert AdviceCan use your marriage certificate to change you middle name to you Maiden name?
Wondering if you can change your name from [First name] [Middle Name] [Maiden Name] to [First name] [Maiden Name] [Spouse's Surname] using just your marriage certificate. I am looking to replace my existing middle name with my Maiden name after our wedding.

Hi there,
If you want to change your surname to your partner's surname after marriage, you cannot use the commemorative marriage certificate given to you on your wedding day. You will need to apply foir an offcial certificate of marriage from the Birth Death Marriages (BDM) registry in which your ceremony took place. Your celebrant can help you to apply an official certificate up to 2 months after your marriage is registered.

Marriage without the ceremony
Hi! My partner and I would like to get legally married without a ceremony at this stage - is there anyone that can provide advice as to whether we can formally sign the legal documents without having a ceremony and saying vows? We haven't submitted the NOIM as yet but have it ready. Ive asked BDM however they arent able to provide me any advice. Thank you!
Phoebe Pham Celebrant
Hi there,
Congratulations of your decision to get married.
Yes, you can get legally married without a ceremony after you have lodged/submitted the NOIM with a celebrant for 30 days.
You can formally sign the legal documents with just five (5) people present including yourselves, your celebrant, and 2 witnesess who must be over 18 and understand English.
At a later stage, you can have a commitment ceremony which has all the components of a wedding ceremony but none of the legals (because you are already married). The good side of this is you will be able to dress up and drink all the champagne you like without worrying about it impacting the legal capacity of your marriage.
Cheers,
