This can be as easy, or as hard as you want to make it!  The first thing would be to check out the Celebrants in your area and see if their profiles and photos seem to fit with your ideas.  Then call the 2, 3 or 4 you have shortlisted and organise to see them - this is usually an obligation free meeting - after all meeting in person, helps to see if you all "fit" together!  Most Celebrants will happily accomodate your wishes and ideas into your ceremony, to ensure your special day is just that - special.  So in choosing a Celebrant - go with the one who "feels' comfortable, who you feel will be good for your day.  It may be the first one you talk to, or the last.

The short answer is, of course you can.  And many couples do.  However, there is some legal wording of vows that must be included - these are in the Marriage Act 1961 and cannot be changed.  Apart from those few legal words, you can basically write what you like, but remember - these are your wedding vows, so while you can have a bit of fun with them (and many couples do), they are a serious part of the ceremony.

There are many different traditions which Celebrants can incorporate into your ceremony.  For example, a few years back, I had a wonderful couple whose ceremony was both traditional Australian, with the other half Indian - it worked so well together and (and I'm sure she won't mind me adding this), because her father missed the plane from India, I got my phone out and facetimed the whole ceremony to him!  The day was magic.

Traditions and rituals can be a wonderful 'added extra' to your day - Handfasting, Sand ceremony, Stone and, if you like wine - a Wine Box ceremony, are only a small handful of rituals which we can discuss and add to make that special day, even more memorable.  And, together, we'll find that right spot to put it in!
