Get Expert AdviceCan a wedding service be done in two languages?
My partner and I are from different backgrounds. He's European and I'm from Australia. Are we able to get our ceremony done in both languages?
A Simple Celebration - Kathryn Drew
Yes, and it's lovely to hear! The celebrant does not need to speak the language, you can have a translator or guest translating. The celebrant will say the official legal wording in English and the couple need to say their official wording in English, and as long as both of the couple have a clear understanding of what's being said, all is fine. Xx
Can I have a friend as my celebrant
What are the logistics of having a friend be your celebrant, whilst getting an official celebrant to organise the legal side of things? We want to do the legals on the day so we don't have to get officially married before/after our wedding day. Is this a service that many celebrants offer? Ideally also with guidance for the friend who has never done this before
A Simple Celebration - Kathryn Drew
Yes, your friend can co-officiate. You do need a registered celebrant to perform the legal vows and monitum, which is only a few minutes, and can be easily interwoven into the ceremony. Your friend can simply call upon the celebrant to come forward to say these few words then your friend continues. This is how I do it and it's a fabulous way to include someone very special on your wedding day.
Two wedding ceremonies - Orthodox and Atheist
Hello, I am Australian/English & my partner is Serbian Orthodox. He was born in Australia and speaks fluent English & Serbian. His family want us to do a Serbian orthodox wedding ceremony, but I really want to have a ceremony in English, where my father can walk me down the isle, we can have music & our own vows (all which aren’t included in a Serbian orthodox ceremony). Is there a way to have two ceremonies? Has this been done before? I don’t want to offend my FH family but I feel like this wedding won’t be me and I am very upset about it. FH is on board with my ask. Please, any advice is welcome!
A Simple Celebration - Kathryn Drew
Yes you can have two ceremonies, however only one can have the legally binding marriage vows and monitum. Your guests will not necessarily notice. This is because once you are legally married you cannot be married again, that is an offense by law. Your second ceremony will look and sound like a wedding, just without those specific words being repeated. Congratulations!
