About
Marriage ceremonies come in a variety of forms and yours will always be different in some ways to others. Years ago as a registrar I had no choice in the form of the ceremony and neither did you. Then in the mid-1970's the Attorney-General visited me to initiate a civil celebrant program across Australia. I was fortunate to be able to meet with couples to include essential things like music, poetry and readings, themed weddings and many cultural aspects. This is all available to you.

FAQ
Yes, I have assisted hundreds of couples in this situation over the years. As Registrar I designed the official letter advising the immigration authorities of your arrangements. Often the ceremony is a small one covering the basic legal aspects so I reduce my fee for the ceremony. I do not charge fees for visa letters or JP witnessing of documents.
Yes, I have done many ceremonies on the south coast of NSW and the Southern Tablelands. As well I have done ceremonies in outback NSW, North Queensland, and Victoria by arrangement.
For regional locations (50km radius from Canberra) there are no additional fees.
Problems often arise when too many people get involved in the organising. Things become unwieldy, continually changing and can lead to upsetting disagreements. Although this is a time when many things have to be co-ordinated it is good to select a team of family and friends who understand and put your needs first. Celebrants can sometimes be overwhelmed with so many others giving directions.

You will definitely need a celebrant but there is no licence in Australia. You do not need to go near a Registrar of Govt. Dept. The celebrant will complete a Notice of Intended Marriage form with you and then sight your birth certificates or passports and divorce/death documents if necessary.
