OVERVIEW
Emily Carr is no ordinary celebrant. With a background in acting, comedy, and writing, she brings a fresh, engaging energy to every wedding ceremony. Whether you’re a romantic soul, an introvert who’d rather keep things low-key, or the life of the party, Emily works her magic to make the ceremony a true reflection of your love story.
She takes the time to get to know her couples over coffee (or wine!) to craft a ceremony that hits all the right notes. From traditional elements like exchanging rings to weaving in personal vows and creative touches, she ensures every moment feels authentic and memorable. Whether it’s a backyard bash, a simple legal vow exchange, or something out of the box like tying the knot in a rowboat, she’s ready to help you bring your vision to life.

I became qualified at the start of 2020 and have since solemnised 200+ weddings.
1. Initial zoom chat to see if we are the right fit for each other.
2. First face to face catch up - this is the big one. These meetings typically go for 1-2 hrs where we can drink wine/coffee/beer and discuss:
A) The structure and tone of your ceremony and begin to lock in the elements you'd like to include (vows, ring exchange, doves flying out etc).
B) If you have opted for a love story, I may ask you to elaborate on the answers from your questionnaire. By completing the questionnaire, you provide me with valuable insights into your relationship history and sparkling personalities. This enables me to craft a story that beautifully captures the essence of your relationship, along with your individual personalities.
3) Sign your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM).
3. Wedding rehearsal
4. Wedding Day! Huzzah!
My “office” is located in Collingwood. I will typically meet couples in this area or within a 5K radius. If you live outside of Melbourne, we can discuss a more convenient meeting place that works for both of us.
A 25% booking fee should be paid within two weeks of receiving your invoice. The remaining balance is due the month of your wedding.
The agreement is designed to safeguard both parties involved. I understand contracts can be annoying to read, but it's essential to have complete transparency about our mutual expectations. It ensures a smooth and clear understanding between us.
The full cancellation policy is outlined in the celebrant service agreement. Please read the agreement carefully before signing. I am happy to answer any questions you may have via phone or email.
For ceremonies located 20 km outside of metro Melbourne, a travel fee of $1 per kilometre (round trip) applies. The travel fee also includes wedding rehearsals and any in-person meetings. If the location is more than 1hr outside of Melbourne, an additional petrol fee will incur. We will also discuss if accommodation is necessary.
Not at all! Obviously in order to get married there is paperwork involved, but I will supply you with all of the forms and lodge them for you. The three forms include:
1. Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM). This needs to be signed and witnessed by me at least one calendar month before your ceremony. Again, we do this at our catch up. In order to complete the NOIM, I need proof of birthplace and photo ID. Your passport will suffice (can be expired or overseas).
If you do not have a passport, please bring an original birth certificate and driver’s license. If either of you have previously been married, I will need to see your original Divorce Decree Absolute papers or the Death Certificate of a previous spouse.
2. The Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marry. This is a simple statutory declaration that states you can legitimately and lawfully get married. We sign this as close to the ceremony as possible. So either at the rehearsal or just before your ceremony.
3. The Marriage Certificates. We’ll sign two certificates at your wedding. YAY! One copy is for me, the other is for you! Your copy is much prettier. Consider it a commemorative certificate. It’s legal proof you were married. It is not, however, the legal marriage certificate you use to change your name, apply for a marriage visa etc.
Absolutely! Your wedding day is all about you two. You can choose to read an excerpt, the entire script or hear it for the first time on your wedding day.
It’s not compulsory but I highly recommend it. Rehearsals not only amplify your excitement, they help to alleviate any pre-wedding nerves. We want you feeling confident and ready for your big day.
This is the worst-case scenario and has never happened before (fingers crossed). However, like the scouts, it’s best to be prepared. I have a large directory of amazing celebrants who will seamlessly sub-in. They will conduct the entire ceremony I have pre-written and sign the certificates with you. I have been a celebrant sub-in before and the day went off without a hitch.
A white gown, veil, gloves…no…wait...
To ensure your wedding photos are not affected, I will dress in harmony with the chosen colour scheme or overall vibe of the event. For instance, if your colour scheme is a classic black and white affair, you won't find me wearing neon orange…actually you’ll probably never find me in neon orange.
We can have a conversation about this before the ceremony so that we are on the same page. If you would like me to wear a specific colour I will do my best to accommodate your request.
If the venue is without a PA system, I will bring my Bose S1 Pro equipped with Bluetooth and a cordless Mic. Here is the link to my PA system if you want to check out the features.
If you are choosing the 'full package' I'd be delighted to assist you in crafting your personal vows. As an impartial observer, I can aid in editing, organising, or generating ideas to help you express your feelings eloquently. At no additional cost, we can also schedule a personalised Zoom session for a one-on-one working bee.
I am very proud of the resources that I have collected and curated. You will find links to Poems, Music Playlists and Readings in the Ceremony Guide that I send you.
