FAQ
Hey Lovers,
This is both a yes and no answer.
Yes! I can offer advice on best practices and what is legally acceptable if either party (or both) are changing their names.
Yes! I have a full checklist that I send to you that aims to help make the process a little less laborious.
But..... Unfortunately in SA, a celebrant can't apply for your official Marriage Certificate which is issued by BDM and is required as proof of your marriage. (the cute decorative one you get on your wedding day is a legal doc, but, weirdly, doesn't serve as proof of your marriage)
However, I can give you guidance on how to obtain this official certificate and the steps to take to easily change your name.

Can't wait to change my name!
Beccy Brooks Celebrant
Celebrants have up to 14 days to lodge all of your marriage paperwork and it is all then up to the relevant BDM in your State and Territory.
The timeline for your official marriage certificate to become available will depend on the time of year and backlog the BDM may be experiencing.
I do know in some states it is possible for your celebrant to apply for the Official Marriage Certificate for their couples, however, in South Australia, it must be a party to the marriage that applies for this documentation.
I offer advice as well as a simple name change checklist to any of my couples looking at changing their names as it can be a daunting process!
Is it OK to ask a celebrant to wear a costume at our wedding?
Hello! I've read some responses to celebrants dressing in a matching style etc. Is it rude to ask if they wouldn't mind wearing a costume? I've read somewhere a couple got married by batman and then the obvious Elvis option.. I like the idea of an iconic character and think it would be something to remember but wouldn't want to offend anyone or make it a bad experience. TIA

Ahhhhhhhh!!! So much YESSSSSS!!!!
Of course, you can request for your celebrant to wear a costume! The vast majority of celebrants I come across are SUPER open-minded and are born performers and love the excuse of having a bit of fun and this sounds AMAZING!
It would be best to enquire about their feelings on the matter when requesting information on their services and also expect that the costs involved in buying, hiring or maintaining the costume would be also added as an additional fee.
Sounds like a Hoot! I'd don an Elvis suit in a second!
