Hi guys, I really badly need your suggestion. My wedding gown’s colour is Ivory. And my man and i were looking what’s the best suit for him. He tried both black and white tuxedo. He prefers white for him to stick out from his groomsmean who will be wearing black tuxedo. So, my concern is will my Ivory gown will look dirty if he is wearing white tuxedo with black lapel? What are the rules when the Bride is wearing an Ivory gown and the groom chooses to wear a white tuxedo?

This is a great question, and always quiet complex when looking at ready made garments that are off the rack. The options that we could suggest are the following:
1. Go with the black tuxedo, and an ivory lapel, and could also tie in the ivory colour with the details such as pocket square and button contrasts. Make the jacket a bit more personal and unique to stand out from the groomsmen.
2. Custom make an Ivory Jacket, to match the dress, this can be achieved at a starting price of $499 for a 100% Italian wool made to measure garment.
But I see that the groom is really interested to the wear the white / ivory option with a black lapel or a tone on tone tuxedo. In this case the best option is to do it as a custom garment. For a custom garment you will need to allow 4-6 weeks lead time, but the fit would be excellent and tailored to the groom's body and style preference. Looking at the available options including additional cost of alterations, perhaps it maybe a consideration to go down the made to measure option if it is within budget.

This is a beautiful look that instantly creates drama and impact. It allows the groom to stand out from the groomsmen and also from the guests if the dress code on the invitation is black tie.
We often dress Grooms in an Ivory Tuxedo with with either a black or ivory satin lapel. The groomsmen should then wear a black tuxedo with the same shape satin lapel.
We need to be conscious that the grooms jacket is not too stark a white if the wedding gown is ivory. We would defiately suggest that you look at using an ivory wool rather than white. We offer a number of different fabrics to chooose from should you want to have a custom jacket made.
It depends a lot on your budget. Having a matching Ivory Jacket (prefereably in a dinner style) would be ideal, but to get one made can be expensive. Jackets on their own range from $900 - $3500 (depending where and who makes it).
I personally would choose the black over the white, due to clashing and colour matching issues and also because the black is classic.
If he wants ideas for sticking out that don't include the white/ivory option, then things like dressing the boys down with ties over bowties is a good option, or coloured bowties to match the groomsmen to the bridemaids.
Depending on how long you have, it may be an option to get a jacket made, but I would do some research in your local area.
Hope this helps

Great question! An ivory wedding gown with a white tuxedo can absolutely work, but there are a few things to consider to ensure the contrast looks intentional and elegant rather than mismatched.
Will the Ivory Dress Look "Dirty" Next to a White Tux?
Not at all, but it depends on the shade of white in the tuxedo. Pure white can sometimes make ivory appear slightly darker in comparison, but with the right styling, it can still look stunning. Here’s how to make it work:
How to Make It Cohesive:
If your fiancé loves the white tuxedo look, choosing a slightly off-white shade (rather than stark white) will create a more harmonious pairing with your ivory gown.
A white tuxedo with black lapels is a classic and sophisticated choice, and the black elements will help break up the contrast between his jacket and your dress.
A black bow tie keeps it formal, but if you want more cohesion, he could incorporate ivory in his pocket square or boutonnière to subtly tie into your gown.
Bright lighting, especially in photos, can make subtle shade differences more noticeable. A quick camera test with both outfits under different lighting conditions can help you feel more confident in the choice.
Final Verdict
A white tuxedo with black lapels can absolutely work with an ivory gown, especially if the accessories and details help balance the contrast. If he feels most confident in white, go for it—confidence is key.
