Hi
The easiest way is to clearly descibe the dresscode you are asking for. For instance... Black tie (tuxedo and bow tie).
This helps greatly for people unsure what the different dresscodes mean, or at least your expectation of your dresscode.
Best of Luck!
Regards
Black tie by Xavier

Ensuring your guests understand and follow a formal/black-tie dress code comes down to clear communication and gentle reinforcement. Here are a few ways to make it clear without sounding too strict:
1. Be Specific on Your Invitations
Rather than just saying “Formal” or “Black Tie”, consider adding a brief note:
? Black Tie: Tuxedos for men and formal gowns for women
? Formal Attire: Suits and ties for men, cocktail or floor-length dresses for women
2. Use Your Wedding Website
If you have a wedding website, include inspiration photos or a short guide on what you expect. You can even make it fun—something like:
?? “Think James Bond meets Hollywood glam!”
3. Communicate with Key Guests
Your wedding party and close family will set the tone. Let them know the expectations so they can guide other guests if needed.
4. Social Media & Word of Mouth
If you have a wedding Facebook group or chat, post a friendly reminder closer to the date. Something like:
?? “We can’t wait to celebrate with you! Just a little reminder that our wedding is Black Tie—bring your best tuxes, gowns, and glam!”
5. Trust That Guests Will Follow
Most people want to dress appropriately, and as long as you communicate it clearly, they’ll appreciate the guidance.
