THE PROCESS
Every couture client at Mel Rose Couture will be given Mel's personal attention throughout the entire couture process.
From your first consultation Mel will gather your ideas, inspiration, and, personal style, to produce the first sketches of your gown, illustrating the design elements specified by you. Once the sketches of your gown have been finalised, Mel will then help you in choosing the perfect fabric to bring your gown to life. Your couture experience continues as your dream gown takes shape through pattern construction and toile, to several personalised fittings.
Then, all that remains, is to add the desired embellishments and complete the final hand stitching. Finally your completed gown is revealed. That first sketch has become a magnificent creation that fit's perfectly. The gown you always dreamed of.
Custom Tailoring
Mel understands that couture may not be for every bride, but every bride deserves to have her gown fit perfectly. Not just in size, in style and personality as well. To help all brides feel their best on their big day, Mel Rose Couture offer a bespoke alterations and tailoring service. Whether it's a tweak, a resize, or a complete restyling, you and your gown are in the right hands.
"Mel was amazing to work with! I wore my mothers wedding dress, that was also worn by both of my sisters and altered to suit our individual taste. i was recommended to Mel and so glad i was. She made my dress exactly the way i wanted it, she kept me calm when she could see me getting stressed over the whole wedding planning process. She really was amazing!" - Kiera

Get Expert AdviceThe best shapewear for under my wedding dress
Will I need shapewear for a custom designed dress? If so, what's the best kind that doesn't roll down?
Mel Rose Couture
When it comes to custom designed dresses, most of the time the designer will discuss the inner corsetry work that will be included inside the dress, and what under garments you will require.
The style of undergarments or shape wear will depend on the style of dress.
For example if it is slinky and form fitting I would suggest a sculpting under slip. (I would always suggest any undergarments are purchase in skin tones, as white or darker colour can produce a shadowing effect.)
The purpose of the shape wear is to create a smooth line underneath your dress, I would try to avoid any of the pant or skirt styles that start at the waist as these can dig in at the waistline, and are usually the style that roll down.
The only real way to prevent roll down is to seek out shape wear that has a bra or straps attached.
Am I allowed to take photos of the dresses at my dress appointment?
I heard from a friend that this is sometimes not allowed at the dress fitting/appointment, but is this the norm? Feel like it will help me if I can see what I look like in photos.
Mel Rose Couture
I think photos are a great way to see yourself in your possible gown before making your final decision. With a wedding gown being one of the biggest fashion purchases you are likely to make, it makes sense to really feel good about your choice.
As far as taking photos at your dress appointment, It really does depend on the designer or store. Most will be fine with it ( just politely ask if it's okay before snapping away), others may feel it is not part of the experience they wish you to have whilst in their store.
My advice, ask if they permit photos when you arrive for your appointment. That way you will know the lay of the land before you start trying on gowns and can just enjoy your moment!!
How long do I need to allow for a custom made wedding gown?
Keen to have my dress designed.
Mel Rose Couture
This is the number 1 question I get asked, and there isn't a set time frame that all designers work to.
It all goes to the schedule of the designer and their current work load. Usually it will be a 8 to12 month timeframe. If the designer has allready been booked up, it could be even longer than that.
That being said, you may get lucky and a spot may open up in a designer's schedule, and they may be able to fit you in.
I have had a brides contact me 2-3 yrs out from their weddings, and I have had brides contact me 6-12 weeks before their weddings.
Generally speaking I would think anything less than 6 months and you might be struggling to find someone who could successfully accommodate all your design choices.
If you are looking at less than that 6 months and you are wanting a custom dress don't wait, and, don't let it put you off finding a designer. Start by contact a few and see of they have room for you in their schedule. You won't know unless you ask.
I hope this helps,
Mel ??
